Reviews for Harry Potter and the Enemy Within
K.I.A chapter 1 . 6/29
thank you very much! brilliant work!
awakened-earth chapter 19 . 5/29
faaaaaaaantastic. truly amazing. I'll be seeing if you have an account on AO3, since that's what I use these days. but if not then I'll just read your sequel here. I was really hoping there would be a sequel. this is just too good to not want one.
a few points of things I liked:
the development of the Harry Snape bond was nice, and felt real
I likes how pov glitter between the two so we could get a real sense of their thoights and feelings, especially about eachother.
I thought this was a Harry in charavge, but also a more grown up version than him in the books. a bit more sensible overallwhich makes sense since you didn't give him any respite after Sirius died, while in canon the visions stopped
truly great fic. lots of fun reading it. and it got nice and emotionally charged at times.

well done.
Kanu Tiwari chapter 18 . 5/27
Have you written any more HP docs other than its sequel? I would love to read!
strwalker chapter 19 . 3/29
Wow, I think this is the best HP fanfiction I have ever read! Not only do you allow to expand on Snape’s character, but you didn’t change him. You kept is mean and sarcastic personality from the books and fit it into a new story plot. I am so impressed! Especially since it seems to have been published before the last book and Snape’s backstory was revealed! And the story itself, wow. I spent a whole night reading this. I cannot wait to read the sequel.
lostdreamer23 chapter 5 . 2/7
Omg, this is bloody hilarious. Literally laughing out loud at these two being ridiculous.
OctavCat chapter 1 . 11/21/2019
We really shouldn’t trust the first comments on this story... such hate. It’s in mutliple messages even.
Forget what theguestsaid. This story looks good
Cerasifera chapter 15 . 11/15/2019
Avada kedavra or a poison? They're three sixteen year old boys versus an unarmed man, barely alive and probably asleep! All they have to do is hold him down and smother him with a pillow - takes maybe 3 minutes. Tssk tssk Hermione.
Cerasifera chapter 14 . 11/15/2019
I get that leaving Harry alone with Snape works in the story, but after 7 years of teaching him and 16 of working and living with this man, surely they wouldn't just all go to bed and leave him alone to die? They'd be talking about who takes the first watch, I'd hope.

(I also suspect that Snape has a pillow, so he probably would just have to turn his head and glance down to see Harry.)

(Not sure why I'm still leaving comments actually. It must be my inner reviewer going wild upon encountering a story that's so good except for a few thingies. Sorry about that.)
Cerasifera chapter 10 . 11/12/2019
Ah, I would have loved a bit more detail about the kind of memories Harry keeps dragging up and if and how they affect his mood...
-
I realize my previous comments are rather criticizing (OK not the last one), but I've read this whole story and the sequel and they're so worth it! It's just that the first few chapters are a bit weird and people get put off by that - I almost was, too - and they're missing out and that's such a pity!

There's brilliant stuff in here once the story gets going, wonderful alternative explanations and headcanons and most characters feel, well, believable, except sometimes they do weird shit :-/
So for my fellow readers: keep reading! Give this a chance :-)
Cerasifera chapter 7 . 11/11/2019
What a shame Snape lets it get this far out of hand! Harry is clearly upset, just skip the rest of the class and try again next time instead of an ultimatum.
Cerasifera chapter 5 . 11/10/2019
Love Fred & George being Fred & George, but that letter exchange with Snape was hilarious! Why was no one laughing?! What a pity we only got to read two of the letters when it went on for much longer, and amazing both Harry and Snape were apparently only angry and never had fun in coming up with more insults?
I really wish their relationship would include more of this, because it IS very much Snape's sense of sardonic humor ('we'd be sending Potter to the infirmary in a match box', also telling Crabbe (Goyle?) to stop choking Neville because of the tedious paperwork) and it would be lovely if Harry could see the humor in it too and join him. (I'm sure Dumbledore too would have a lot of tedious paperwork if a student accidentally killed one of his teachers...).
Cerasifera chapter 4 . 11/10/2019
Nice, the story is really taking off now. I would have loved to actually read the short flashes of memories of lonely little Snape, but that's a detail.

The memory of him becoming a Death Eater - very personal, quite traumatic and such an important moment in his life, amazing that he chose to share this with Harry. Now some hesitation would be natural before answering questions... Sweet that Harry is so affected by all he sees and doesn't even have to ask anymore why Snape became a Death Eater.
I also love the detail of the chains wrapping themselves around the soul, given the sequel.
Cerasifera chapter 3 . 11/10/2019
"the potion only boiled more vigorously. Then, without warning it exploded. (...) Harry took the brunt of it"
Let me get this straight. He has a potion that's boiling, so it's 100 degrees Celsius or more, and when the cauldron explodes (!) he gets 'drenched in the slick red liquid' that is boiling hot. So we talking at least first degree burns here, and that HURTS LIKE HELL.
When Neville does something like this in the first Potions lesson, Snape mitigates the damage and sends affected students to the hospital wing immediately. But no, now he smirks and does nothing - they even think he caused it on purpose.
Snape sends Harry to the hospital wing, and Harry... doesn't bother? No mention of Harry being in pain - apparently 'boiling' doesn't mean it's hot, or something. He IS covered in potion though, but instead of taking a shower and putting on clean clothes, he... curls up on his bed? Ew? Absolutely no one notices his dirty clothes.

Snape would go to Harry's Head of House or to the Headmaster, no way he'd approach Hermione and Ron directly.

But thankfully it gets better from here!
Snape much worse than a dragon LOL :-)
I quite like the rest of the chapter, though it's odd that the quick flashes of memories we saw in canon are now whole stories. As an Occlumens, he chooses which memories Harry can see, so why the hesitation to answer such an obvious question? (He would have been 6 in 1966 btw.)
Cerasifera chapter 2 . 11/10/2019
Come on, Snape wouldn't torture a student (also, why take the time and effort and ingredients to make a potion if you already have a curse that takes a second?). That just makes no sense.
And he wouldn't challenge Harry to a duel like that, he's not *that* immature and there's no reason here for him to lose his temper ('control your emotions!'). He was also the one who taught Harry Expelliarmus and Protego - he's all about defensive magic, not about how many curses you know - so using spells like Reducto and Spicula is just so OOC. Saying them out loud is too.
McGonagall is right, but would she scold Snape like a child in front of all those students? I doubt it.
Also, he's a teacher, of course he was teaching Harry a lesson :-)
Cerasifera chapter 1 . 11/10/2019
This story is overdoing it a bit in the beginning wrt how unreasonable/mean/cruel/immature Snape is.
I do not believe that Snape would:
-keep Harry out of his NEWT class despite Harry's Outstanding, to the point where McGonagall basically blackmails him.
-sneer at McGonagall in a private conversation. In canon he at least respects her, they work together well and he was happy to see her when she returned from the hospital.

Also, surely 'accio wand' is second nature when you're an adult in a battle, and surely Remus would indicate to Harry sooner that Snape is standing behind Harry; just glancing over his shoulder would have been enough.

And for some reason I can't picture Snape saying 'Very well'... It reminds me too much of Lockhart.
