You write Bobby so well. Great character study; I love the way you ease the Winchester boys into Bobby's heart, so that even though he starts with "definitely didn't like children" and ends with "he had become a man with something to lose," there's no exact moment of transition to put a finger on. It feels very natural.

Your imagery is lovely as always. You have a knack for evocative and character-driven phrasing. The line that stuck out to me was, "Bobby's mood hung as heavy on him as the snow that weighted the trees." The language of it is as heavy as the snow; I often think your pieces are meant to be read aloud.

As always, too, you have a gift for repetition, both in the lines you choose to repeat and in the placement of those lines, so that each repetition carries with it the power of the previous ones while presenting itself in a different light. Although I quite like what you've done with the word "practical," the repetition that stuck out to me was "'it's not your fault' didn't do a blind bit of good with them," because of the way Bobby takes the same thought and applies it differently to Sam and Dean. The care and insight of it warms my heart.

Side note: Btw, the audacity of John just leaving his boys at the house of a man he's only met twice . . .! I enjoy your John mightily, and would like to see more of him.

Ohh, and very nice note about Sam's intensity reminding Bobby of John's. You have a way of slipping character observations very neatly into the flow of your prose.

"he kept his own [guilt] in a locked box at the back of his mind, and only pulled it out on special occasions"

AWESOME story...exactly what I wanted, little snippets of Bobby's involvement...loved the 2002 segment especially, though it was painful.

I loved that story, I love stories that focus on Bobby's relationship with both of the boys, or that focus on his relationship with Sam. I know the show tends to focus more on Dean, so I enjoy reading stories where they both get an equal amount of attention from Bobby :)

This was amazing. I was trying to come up with one to claim as my favourite, but everytime I read the next one I realized that it was just as perfect as the ones before. Excellent use of Bobby's voice, great job all through with structure and descriptions.

I LOVE your take on Bobby! How he gets involved with the Winchesters! I haven't seen anyone else do this, so good call on something original! I like how you broke down the different times lines too - made us realize just how short the stints with the Winchesters were and yet how easily Bobby fell for them after only a few times... a few awkward times at that! Great job as always!

That was a wonderful look at Bobby. Great internal voice and I love the snapshots of John and the boys from his viewpoint. Heh, and that's an interesting take on what caused the big John/Bobby blow-up :)

Anyways, the 'Bobby Singer had always been a practical man' was just AWESOME and I LOVED IT. I'd never read a Bobby-based fic before this (not sure there are many out there) but from what he's like in the scenes he's in on spn, I'm sure this is what he's like. Especially the shotgun bit. But that was your pure genius.

how he first met John, that was SO TYPICALLY JOHN to just burst in and I almost laughed.
