Reviews for Cousin, Mine

So I read this story from start to finish last nice. What a awesome job on writing this! You had me hooked! Thank you for taking the time to share it.
Gear's Girl chapter 25 . 2/26/2011
great story! excellent job!
Mirthless Laughter chapter 6 . 1/11/2011
Well, as the website firmly informs me that there will only be one review per chapter, this is the last review I have to send to you on this story. As I warned you with the first one, I'm not sure I'm willing to quit after just six chapters. But maybe. Maybe I'll skip around and reread my most favorite parts, and the most important parts, and then move on to the next one. Because I've already been absent for so doggone long...

ANYHOW!

Haha. Luke's "I don't know whether to kill you or kiss you", and then Cooter saying he'd rather Luke did neither, just made me smile. ] As did the whole plan. The Dukes know how to make a plan work, that's for sure! I do feel bad for Enos, though. I always feel bad when Daisy takes advantage of his feelings for her. He's such a sweetheart, it's just not fair.

I'll excuse her this once, though, knowing that she did it to help Bo. Because... I would have to.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 5 . 1/11/2011
I remember reading a book years ago about the coal mines (I might have mentioned this before, I can't quite recall) where it described some of the conditions in the mines, and I was flat-out horrified, even before Uncle Jesse's story, to think of Bo in those kinds of conditions. And Uncle Carleton... well, he made it even worse. I think I spent a great majority of this story afraid that Luke wasn't going to be able to convince Bo to come back with him, but at least some of it was spent worrying that something would happen to him before Luke could get to him (which, I know, doesn't make sense; but worries are not always sensible things).

I can't even imagine what it would be like to get that kind of news, the Robby thing, in such a harsh manner. I mean, I'm not condemning Uncle Jesse, since he was clearly already sick with worry (especially with everything that happened to Carleton); but it would just really suck. My goodness. And especially knowing what happened to him at the end of this one...

But anyway. I'm glad Uncle Jesse insisted on sending Luke after him. And I know, plot devices, and maybe Bo would have come home by himself eventually, but probably not. Makes for a better story to have Luke looking for him, anyway. But still. I'm glad.

Bo needs Luke.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 4 . 1/11/2011
I like the idea of Bo and Luke singing duets. :) When it happened at least that one time, with "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys", I was pretty much in love. Well... no, I've been in love since the first reunion movie theme song. But I guess, chronologically, the former was first. Ha.

Anyway. I just like the concept, almost as much as I still like the idea of them all being home for dinner. We only do that on Sundays in my family, but I wouldn't mind doing it more frequently. It brings a certain closeness that I just like knowing the Dukes had (and there's no such thing as reunion movies, right?).

Anyway. And my fears were confirmed. Bo... *sigh* I mean, I really do understand where he's coming from, but that doesn't mean I can't still be exasperated with him. Child, don't do things like this to me. -shakeshead-

Dukes shouldn't be apart. Period.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 3 . 1/11/2011
That would be so uncomfortable, having Bo... not acting like Bo, I guess. After you get used to having someone with a sunny disposition around you all the time, it would certainly be upsetting not to have them like that anymore all of a sudden. Or around. I meant to mention that to you in the PM: the second episode last night didn't have John Schneider in it but for two minutes at the end! Shame, shame, everyone knows your name! I hope this doesn't become a regular thing, because I was certainly not a fan of Bo being substituted with Daisy. But it did confirm one thing I was thinking before: it was better that both Tom and John left in Season Five, then to have one leave and the other try to carry the show with a replacement. I would have felt compelled to watch the episodes if one of them had still been in it, and that would have just been sad.

Anyway!

The last line... so true. Thanks for helping, Cooter, but unfortunately, you weren't much help. Haha. I guess with the plot, though. Undercover Dukes is another reason why I have a hard time buying into Bo-and-Luke-and-Daisy-all-left: Uncle Jesse was so sad! I mean, mad I could have handled. Daisy, her reaction I handled. Uncle Jesse was so SAD. He didn't even yell at them for not keeping their promise. It was pathetic. I nearly cried (and yes, I realize they were doing it for the right reason. I still told them not to do it.).
Mirthless Laughter chapter 2 . 1/11/2011
This story... well, here I am again, trying to get back to reviewing even though I keep vanishing for long periods of time and probably making you think I've gone and forgotten about you. But I haven't! And I WILL review! I'm just slow sometimes.

Anyway.

I understand where Bo's coming from. Being the youngest, it seems like it's kind of just second nature for your siblings (or cousins) to want to protect you from everything, even though that's the most frustrating thing in the world. But Bo isn't a child, so it's not really fair.

Fears started setting in in this chapter, if I remember correctly. The beginnings of doubts, of, "Oh, Bo... don't do it, I will literally kill you." Of course, I didn't mean that literally, since he did do it, and I didn't kill him. Although I thought about it quite a bit.

I mean, I see where Bo's coming from, like I already said. Just makes me sad. This story filled me with sadness, as I seem to recall. Haha.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 1 . 12/22/2010
I hesitated starting to review this one, because I started somewhere closer to the beginning than the end, and I know if I start it, I'm going to have to finish it. But I suppose the eight reviews I owe you from this one are probably better than none at all, so... here we go!

This one... I remember it making me sad. But the beginning made me smile. Boys will be boys, roughhousing and whatnot. Much as I love Uncle Jesse, I really don't see them hurting each other... even on accident. Luke is so careful with Bo, it just seems unlikely to me. But I had to laugh at the line about how he knew just how to punish each of his boys. Yes. Yes, he does.

A guilty Bo makes for an unhappy general audience, at least in my opinion. So I guess he makes this audience unhappy. But... you know. When someone is usually optimistic, it's certainly weird to have them suddenly... not.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 25 . 11/20/2010
Awww! I absolutely adore the thought of Jesse racing with the boys and Daisy, it makes me so happy. I'm glad you decided against giving a winner, since that would have taken some of the fun away from thinking how a race like that would have gone. I bet Jesse has some tricks up his sleeves that the boys still had to learn! Couldn't even imagine. :)

Having recently actually seen a niece of mine in the newborn state, I know how Bo feels exactly. Good night, but those babies are small. I think it's adorable, how he responded - not only to that, but to having the baby named after him. I guess Beauregard would take some getting used to, but it's a name that's growing on me. Haha. But the whole scene was absolutely perfect, and adorable, and I couldn't stop smiling throughout.

Anyway, the ending was also beautiful. I feel bad for Uncle Jesse. Coming from a big family myself, I can't even imagine the thought of being without my siblings. It's weird to think of the boys having kids, and I stayed steadfastly away from the reunion video so I wouldn't have to encounter any such reality if there was one - but if they had them, I'd certainly expect them to be raised together. To revisit the previously made comment, it would have been horrible if Bo had died. Just... that's all. Horrible.

In conclusion, thank you for writing this story, and for posting it. Having read your profile, I expected your announcement of retirement, so... that... that doesn't bother me as much as it would if I didn't know that this wasn't your last story about the Dukes. If I could, I would favorite this story again, as a parting gift - you certainly earned it here. But I guess we'll have to both be content with this excessively long review. I told you I tend to ramble.

Now, I do intend to go back and reread and review the chapters that I skipped while doing this story, but I probably won't do it until I'm ready to reread the first story (which I'm going to do so that I can give you accurate reviews). Stories? Either way. I'll be doing that, but I'll probably read the rest of everything else, first.

Thanks for warning me that there will be some changes up the road. I'm sure they're probably still good, in their own rite, although I admit that somethings I'm less fond of than others when it comes to writing, so you never know. Either way, if I read them, I'll do my best to review! And to give you my honest opinions, as well. That's what these are, even if it seems like there's not a lot of substance for the amount of words. My honest opinions.

Okay. I'll leave you alone now. For... a while, at least. Maybe no more than a few minutes.

*heads off*
Mirthless Laughter chapter 24 . 11/20/2010
I'm sad to see it winding down, too, in a way. In another way, I'm excited to be moving on to the next Duke adventure!

It doesn't bother me in the least that I was incorrect about their legal discrepancies, and that they actually did go into Tennessee, because it just makes it seem more authentic. Far more likely the boys just tricked someone into believing they didn't do something than actually not doing it. That's one of the many reasons I love them, I suppose. They're sweethearts, even when they're doing things that maybe they shouldn't be.

From the ending, I'm guessing this might be the last we see of Agent Roach? Well, as long as Daisy can handle it, so can I. I did enjoy him, though. You know how to make OCs work in fanfiction, which is something that I've found to be pretty rare. They either steal the stage and make the story uncomfortable, or are too small and simple and really just don't matter. But you do a good job of making them fit perfectly, not taking too much of the spotlight and not fading into the background too much. So I commend you. :)

And that having been said, I love the scene between Luke and Bo in the jailhouse. Aside from the run, with Bo behind the wheel, and the scene where Luke's handcuffed and Bo's unconscious, the jailhouse scene was my favorite in the story I didn't review for you (I intend to, though, sooner or later). Daisy's right; they do have some of their best conversations behind bars. But I'm not looking forward to seeing them spend any more time there, either!

All right. I'm off to read the wrap-up. :)
Mirthless Laughter chapter 23 . 11/20/2010
Bo being sarcastic win. That's all I have to say about that. He doesn't do it often, I know, since that's really more Luke's thing... but still, it's made of win, when either of the boys pull it out of their hats. Or... well, they don't really have hats, so maybe curls would be a better definition? Either way!

It's both good to see Andy Roach again - since I actually did enjoy his character in the first one, even if he inevitably had everything to do with Bo and Luke's moonshining downfall - and troublesome, since he's never brought anything but trouble with him. Although if someone is going to give them a fair shake, I have to imagine it would be that man. And I'm not sure, but I think what I'm reading here is that they never really crossed the Tennessee border, and Boss would never believe that - so it might be a good idea old Roach decided to drop in, after all.

And... goodness. Luke's thoughts about getting out of the General made me laugh, because they clicked with some of the things I've been wondering about lately, like how much practice it actually took for them to be able to slide in and out of the General like that. I know I read on wikipedia that the actors later said it was harder to do it when they got in on the sides they weren't usually on, so I can imagine it took some getting used to. I'm glad you pay such attention to even the little details, because it makes reading your stories all that much more enjoyable.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 22 . 11/20/2010
That's a dirty rotten trick on Boss's part, and I feel bad for the boys, since they were so excited. Haha. I guess I shouldn't expect anything less, though, really. I'm worried about Luke's plan, since the only ones I can think of myself are not really plans so much as "it's-not-going-to-work" ideas that make no sense, but Luke is a better schemer than me, so I'll leave him be.

The site was actually working last night and would have let me read another chapter, but I couldn't let myself. And it turned out to be a good thing, since my mother roused me from bed earlier this morning than I should have liked. By turning on the light, no less. xD.

Anyway, now that that completely irrelevant piece of information is out of the way, I just have to say... be careful, Bo! I loved Uncle Jesse's lines in this one; absolutely spot-on. :) And Daisy's not alone in her anger, although I'm afraid I'm a little less indignant about the whole thing. It's to be expected, I guess, when it comes to Boss.

All right, I'm done now. Onward!
Mirthless Laughter chapter 21 . 11/20/2010
The birth of a great automobile! I'd had hopes. Bo's right, they'll be number one. :) Or, at least, in my eyes, if not in the race.
Mirthless Laughter chapter 20 . 11/19/2010
I know, I know, I'm singing the same old tune, but I love this chapter for an entirely different reason. I think. Although I guess, ultimately, it's the characters that I love, and the way you write them, so it's the same. Still.

This chapter just had me smiling pretty much all the way through, from Luke's conversation with the Sheriff to his conversation with Daisy about really needing a bath - and then Bo and Uncle Jesse talking, near the end, that just made me want to make high-pitched fan girl noises that would have been a bad idea at this time of night in my sleeping house. It was adorable. :) I love the way you even manage to so casually slip in those threats he's always making on the show to whip them.

One thing I am not happy about is the fact that you threw in a little tidbit of information without an accompanying story. xD. I want to know what happened that provided Luke with the opportunity to throw Bo into a trunk, and why he would even want to! Although they're boys, so there's that again, but I read those two lines like three times trying to picture it. And it wasn't that hard to picture it. xD.

Anyway. I'm a little bit nervous, because it seems like Roscoe gave up a mite too easily, and there are still a few chapters left where bad things could happen, but I need to get to bed soon. I'm bartering with myself for one more chapter.

Either way, more reviews to come! ]
Mirthless Laughter chapter 19 . 11/19/2010
All right, I'll admit it, you got me with the chapter title. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, maybe some Daisy and Ken action (which really wouldn't have been proper, what with him been a promised man... but you know)... so the fact that it ended up but Rosco and Enos' cars just made me laugh. Nice. :)

But... wait, wait, wait. One of them got caught? That can't possibly have been in the plan! I dislike that ending. xD.

Also, loved the scene where Luke was telling Bo a bit about the war. Bo's right, that probably was the bravest thing Luke's ever done - and he did it for his baby cousin, and that... that's just so sweet. Gah! I love this story. :)
