A brilliant, emotional one-shot. Evocative, the image is created for the reader. An interesting thing to pick out, the hat that fell from Jack's head as he made the choice.

This was a very good POV from Daniel pertaining to Lost City. Nice to read something as to how Daniel felt during this time.

So bitter-sweet! So much is written about Jack/Sam for Lost City, it's good to read a Daniel POV. I've pondered Daniel's reactions from time to time - at this point, Sam had her dad and (eek!) Pete, Teal'c had Ishta and his son...but Daniel's closest "relative" was Jack. MS did such a good job - yelling "Jack!" with a mix of fear and anger, and the first few minutes getting off the planet, his grabbing Jack and hauling him up when he fell, and other such little things that revealed Daniel's emotions. I've often wondered what happened in the days that followed, why Daniel left Antarctica at all... Great idea and story!
