arandomshipper chapter 1 . 11/7/2016 I've read a bunch of your stories now, and I have to say that I love your writing style. Very enjoyable. So, naturally, I decided to review the story I had the most problems with. Human nature, I guess. First of all, I don't review stories unless I finish them, and I don't finish stories that are absolute crap, so let's get that out of the way. I feel the need to say that because I'm going to rip this story pretty hard. The sheer number of unanswered questions at the end is, quite frankly, staggering. If I started listing them I have no idea when I would stop, so I'll just mention the most glaring one, since it also leads to a rather large plot hole. Wade says that he 'gave away her location'. Whose location? The real Kim, or the clone? I ask that, but it couldn't be the clone, because the people who created and planted the clone wouldn't need to find out from Wade where it is. The very idea is absurd. So he gave away the real Kim's location. But if he knew the real Kim's location, he also knew that the person at the clone's location was not the real Kim. In other words, he knew that Kim was still alive. So at this point, we are either to believe that he stayed silent about her capture for six years (something that is never stated, and I think the characters would act entirely differently if that were the case), or that this little detail has been overlooked. I'm far more inclined to believe option 2. The writing style and general plot was just as interesting and attention-grabbing as your usual, but the weight of the unanswered questions at the end left me unsatisfied. |

Librana chapter 25 . 4/20/2013 Just finished reading this story from start to finish. It is a compelling page-turner and your dialogue is very evocative, especially between Kim and Ron, and Kim and Monique. Overall I thought this a great story, but I also have some criticism and a number of questions about the plot. Should you get to post answers to the questions I for one would be most grateful. First the questions. 1. What happens to Darren at the end? He appears to have been shielded from harm by Brick at the end of the penultimate chapter, and as Brick survives the blasts presumably Darren does as well. So does he get off scot-free? Very unsatisfactory if true! 2. What was Darren's motive for wanting Kim dead at the outset? Shego indicated that she saw something she wasn't supposed to when arresting Wiles. Is that it? 3. What was Wiles' motivation for holding Kim for 6 years? Who paid for it? Why? This feels like a big plot hole unless I am missing something. One reviewer implied that it was for Kim's own protection from Darren, but she surely would not have been locked up in that case. 4. Does Wiles also get away scot-free? Surely a long spell in prison for kidnapping? Does Brick really agree to keep quiet about him? 5. Would Wiles really have let Kim go for money? Would he not have expected the law to be onto him the moment that Kim got home? Why didn't they? Perhaps depends on why he held her in the first place. 6. I was surprised to see that Darren just let the Prof, Ron and Brick leave after Kim had been taken. Why not leave Monique as well? From the earlier part of the story I would have expected him to be quite willing to kill them, he having killed Tara for less. 7. I can't understand Wade's original motivation for selling out Kim to Wiles. I presume this would be answered by understanding Wiles' own motive for kidnapping her. 7. Smaller points. Who was it that rang Ron and asked if he was happy that KP was back? Was Brick's assailant at Tara's house a clone? Because of these points, I found the ending unsatisfactory, with neither villian held to account and no real explanation of why Kim was taken in the first place. My main criticism of the story itself is that Kim is just too passive throughout. She is someone that things happen to. She is sprung from prison, rather than escaping, she gets recaptured despite knowing that Shego will sell her out (and she even appears to forgive Shego for this), she contributes next to nothing to the Tara investigation and she is unable to help herself or Monique when they are captured. This is not the Kim we know and love! Clearly she is traumatised by her imprisonment and the revelation of Ron and Monique - and you capture this extremely well throughout - but I was hoping that by the end she would be seriously kicking butt and being a key player in unravelling the mystery. Enough of the negatives. The shipping was done extremely skilfully. Your portrayal of the reactions of Ron, Monique and Kim, and the ups and downs of their interactions, really rang true. Kim's swinging emotions just felt right, and you rightly resisted the happily ever after ending with Ron, even though if I were Brick I'd be pretty dubious that Kim would stick around for too long - they just didn't feel like a very convincing couple. To reiterate, I was gripped by the story and the many twists. If at the end I felt slightly let down from the untied plot loose ends, this does not detract from the pleasure I got reading the story. I am now inspired to read your shorter humorous pieces and would love to see a sequel or companion piece to this one, perhaps set six years earlier. |
