Good but not finished Story is not finished.

Recently re watched the movie because of this fic. very well done, I love the parallel storylines. I'm disappointed that this fic ends on a rather depressing cliffhanger.I honestly didn't mean to write this all out, but once I had it was there and I wasn't gonna let it go to waste. So, whoever's there, enjoy.I imagine Christine finds Raoul. They discover that they both changed since they last saw each other. Raoul is heartbroken he has begun to love another and is uneasy with how his murder and infidelity sits on his soul. Christine tries again to mourn the man she left, but finding it so much harder than she did before, knowing he is alive and still alone. Christine and Raoul return to Paris and both try to rekindle their love and passion for the engagement, but through fake smiles and platitudes that they've resigned themselves to making, they know they're miserable. The closer the wedding comes the more trapped each other feels. Christine attempts to find comfort in her friendship with Meg, but it is different and Christine begins to feel as alone as Erik

Meanwhile, Erik has been alone in his new lair in Alger. Always alone. He feels like things are still left unfinished between him and his muse. Nadir eventually finds him and Erik tries to kill him for his betrayal but cannot, coming to understand that Christine did help him to change him for the better, she was his Salvation. Nadir, ever remaining a friend, stays with Erik so he's not so alone.

Unable to continue with the lie, Raoul tells Christine about the infidelity. Betrayed and finding no one to turn to, she runs first to her father's grave. She prays and despairs. It is now winter again and she realizes she hates the cold. She finally let's herself reminisce on those final days in Alger with Erik, thinks warmly of their time singing and thinks there is still something to return to with Erik. She realizes that what she wants is to sing again. She comes to the decision to end the engagement.

Christine informs Raoul that she wishes to end the engagement. Raoul accepts this, understanding that this may have been the inevitable conclusion. He asks if she hadn't been kidnapped by Erik they would have been happily married by now, Christine said that they would have and that she loves him still and probably always would.

Christine returns to her home with Madame Giry and Meg, ignoring her former friend. Madame Giry has been writing letters back and forth from Nadir, who had expressed the changes he sees within Erik. She sends a letter to Nadir informing him of the recent developments.

Giry is highly disappointed in her daughter Meg and expresses her displeasure and opinion that she didn't raise her daughter to be so loose in morals. Things are now cold and strained between mother and daughter. Giry won't even speak to Raoul. Meg feels her mother and best friend's scorn and despairs while knowing it's deserved. Eventually she runs into Raoul who has begun to frequent bars and pubs in the evening. Raoul takes Meg to dinner and it becomes a regular event, but both are very careful to avoid the romantic tension between them.

Nadir receives the letter from Giry about the broken engagement. Rather than tell Erik of the events, and afraid to have him lose all the progress Erik's made in letting go of Christine, he keeps it secret and mentions nothing to Erik, who has been composing and inventing..

Christine has grown tired of the Parisian gossip and derision of her decision to reject Raoul. and begins looking for employment outside of Paris at other Opera houses. She finds a production in the south of France, in a warmer climate. Before she leaves, Meg admits to Christine she loves Raoul and deeply regrets what has happened between them. Christine says that she misses her friend and invites Meg to write to her, but says that their friendship will never be as it once was.

Weeks later, Erik receives his post showing Christine as the leading soprano in an opera opening soon. He confronts Nadir about knowing what happened to the engagement and leaves immediately. Erik arrives in time for opening night, and attends the opera, genuinely rejoicing in the apparent happiness of Christine.

After the performance, he steals his way backstage to visit Christine, giving her his signature rose. Christine delights in seeing him, but there's tension in the air or unresolved matters and un-admitted love. Christine tells Erik of the broken engagement, Erik already knows. Erik asks about the Vicomte and Christine tells him of the infidelity, something he did not know. Erik barely contains his rage and violence. But he does and Christine notices. Christine points this out and Erik warns her that he would still kill him but it is for her happiness he will not.

To change Christine asks how he is doing and Erik honestly answers that he has been composing and still thinks of her everyday. Christine tells Erik she thinks of him everyday as well. Tension rises and they realize

I realize that you haven't worked on this story for quite some time, but I wanted to tell you that I have really enjoyed reading it over the last few days (I find both the characters of Eric and Meg particularly compelling.) I wanted to encourage you to consider finishing it, as I very much want to know how you resolve the rather complicated web you have created. At first I didn't like the pairing of Raoul and Meg (as it seem a bit too convenient), but I am actually kind of rooting for these two now. First off: I am in love with your writing and this fiction holds no exception. It's beautiful how you explore each character's thoughts. Secondly: I'm trendously sad to have just realized this isn't a finished fic., but at least I have a handful of more chapters to read before it's...not-end. Hi! I know it's been years since you updated this. To be honest, I found this story a couple of years ago, gave up on it because it hadn't been updated in so long, forgot to save it, and have been trying to find it again since then. I finally found it a couple of days ago and devoured it since. I'm so glad I did! I've been dying to re-read chapter 27 for months now, and am happy I can now. I know you're working on others stories, but I hope you come back to this one eventually. It's so well written and interesting, and I'd love to see it fully completed.

Ugh. Why does everyone on this site hate Raoul? What did he ever do? Btw- i dont think Ive EVER read a conversation between Giry and Valerius. Ever ever. Your blending of worlds is very unique.

Very interrsting mash up of the musical and book during the chapter... i also enjoyed your descriptions of Music Of The Night from Christines point of view.

*wipes forehead* okay, for a second there I was beginning to wonder if the entire story was going to be marital angst...should have known better than to lose faith in you :D

Really love this chapter. The buildup and suspense had me holding my breath. Such a pity she fell asleep.

I just finished reading this story, and it's fast become one of my favorites. I just love the way you describe all the conflicting emotions, the dialogues - oh my, everything! I really hope you'll get around to concluding the story someday... please! In the meantime, thank you so much for writing this. It is truly beautiful :)
