This is an interesting ending, and it felt reminiscent of some of their recent discussions. Nice ending to the story. Favorite part:

“I’m not a kid anymore, Dean. You’re not in charge.”

I liked this explanation-it's alluded to in the series but not said outright and this does it nicely:

Dean was right; he knew the rules. And they weren’t just John Winchester’s rules. There was already a system in place for dealing with humans and, no matter how evil, they were left to the authorities. There were too few people who knew how to deal with the supernatural creatures they hunted to split their time by going after people, too.

Very interesting chapter and ending. I felt like it was a little short...I would have liked some additional closure, but hey, it was still an excellent story. Thanks for the good read!

This is not good! Why is Sam such an easy obey-er? Hmm...

He wanted for Sam whatever Sam wanted for himself, but there was something wrong here and Dean didn’t know what it was or how to fix it. That was not something he was comfortable with.

Man, Sam is in serious trouble. His brain has totally been fried by the creepy lady.

He tensed when Sam ended the call saying he would take care of it; he had a feeling he was it. He had a very bad feeling.

Okay, should I feel *better* that Dean's running off by himself? Raise you hand to vote that he just throw the hog-tied Sam in the back seat and get out of Dodge! *raising hand*

He knew it was wrong and he knew it was dangerous, but he knew it might also be his only chance to talk to them without his brother. It might be the only way - (okay, this is the part where you start hollering at the tv "don't do it! this is a bad idea" and they never listen)

This is so not good. At least Dean has a clue now, though. Oy.

Either way, while Dean did as he was expected to do, he hated the situation.

Closer to home, he also hated the way his brother was feeling. (nicely dovetailed paragraphs)

When they were kids, before Sam left for school, there was almost nothing Dean didn’t know about him. Dean could read his younger brother like a book and always knew what he needed. Four years apart was a long time, though, and they were both different people. In some very important ways, Sam was a stranger to Dean now. (gorgeous)

But what bothered Dean the most was how much his gentle younger brother was acting like their father. John Winchester loved his sons, but he was a hard and bitter man. Those were not qualities Dean wanted to see in Sam. (no kidding)

Dean sighed, but he caught sight of something on the map and his thoughts changed focus. He stepped back for a moment then grabbed a pencil from the desk.(adore logistically brilliant Dean)

Loved the story, you do such a beautiful job writing angst and pain (should I be worried?)

I'm glad Dean was able to stop Sam from bringing Jess back from the dead, it would have been gross and traumatic for everybody, readers included!

I appreciate that even in a story filled with Sam's loss and pain, you still manage to throw in a drugged Dean thereby filling my needed hurt/sick Dean quota!
