whirlingskirts chapter 35 . 7/15 I’m a dyed-in-the-wool Spuhura fan. It’s clear to me (and anyone who actually watched TOS) that if Spock would have been attracted to any human female, it would have been Uhura. So, in a sense, it was good to see the reboot take the trajectory it would have if not taboo for 60's television. This aside, why do all caring male/female friendships in fiction have to be romantic? I'm glad you referenced the attraction - and the reasons it probably would not have been acted upon by professionals. It is also satisfying to see Uhura taking her career track and even Christine’s feelings into account. So tired of the usual “cat fight bcuz having an alpha male is the ultimate female desire” trope. So tired of the bitchy, backbiting woman trope. And even though I’ve never forgiven the series for turning a competent career nurse into a sappy, maudlin caricature, thank you for supplying a plausible reason why Spock could have been turned off by Christine. |
whirlingskirts chapter 68 . 7/14 This fic had intrigue, angst, humor - I was completely engrossed for 68 chapters. At the last minute, you made me believe Spock would have a reason to return to Starfleet with all the familial, cultural and financial ties he has to Vulcan - not to mention the responsibilities he obviously feels to his heritage. Thank you for this gift! |
whirlingskirts chapter 65 . 7/14 I love the references to previous episodes/movies. |
whirlingskirts chapter 61 . 7/14 8 chapters with Spock at death's door? I'm glad that's finally over. |
whirlingskirts chapter 51 . 7/13 From angst to heartwarming in a few sentences. I so enjoy your writing! |
whirlingskirts chapter 50 . 7/13 “Sarek began to think that perhaps Starfleet might actually have been a good hiding place for Spock, if he had such tendencies.” Amanda: "Well. He will hate that. He shuns notice and attention." Sarek: “Apart from playing in front of ruffians in a common bar." Did you mean for this chapter to be funny, because it was. Amanda and Sarek’s conversation is hilarious. |
whirlingskirts chapter 48 . 7/13 Wow! Sarek’s admission that Spock broke his heart! I had to put the story down for a few minutes. Talk about angst! You’ve got my emotions so keyed. I was as frustrated with Sarek as McCoy. |
whirlingskirts chapter 39 . 7/12 "I warned you all this was a long novel..." And I'm so happy it is. I'm completely engrossed! |
whirlingskirts chapter 23 . 7/11 Poor McCoy! Conversation with any of these people is like picking his way through minefields. When I saw the word “chattel” I knew Sarek was gonna blow! You’re making me tense. |
whirlingskirts chapter 22 . 7/11 The insights into interpersonal relationships make this fiction very real. Once again I am disturbed by Spock’s rearing. This is the real meaning of horrible. |
whirlingskirts chapter 20 . 7/11 I am so enjoying this! |
whirlingskirts chapter 15 . 7/10 Boy! You'd think he'd know to avoid anything that would cause Spock distress but with your Jim, it's all about him! And I must say, reading your series, I'm finding that Spock is constantly recreating his relationship with his self-involved, overbearing father - first with Pike and then with Kirk. Your portrayal is logical and insightful but also disturbing. |
whirlingskirts chapter 4 . 7/10 Wow! Is Kirk the friend who wants to be more important than anybody including family? |
Shari desilva chapter 58 . 4/27 Pat Foley confirms and expands what we have always subliminally believed of Spock and his family. Gripping, heart warming and terrifying all at once |
cimmer chapter 68 . 2/2 That was a wonderful novel - very excellent, thank you very much. I liked how you were very even handed about everyone having faults and strengths. I loved learning more about Vulcan in your universe. I liked the Terrans getting a reminder that Vulcan is Vulcan, not a vassal state. I really enjoyed that you brought up Spock's solution for Pike vs his solution for Sarek in JtB. I hadn't thought of that, but it certainly made Amanda's upset more logical. I liked how everyone changed even Kirk. It was also nice how you tied in the reboot with the Spock/Uhura pairing into the original series with Nichelle's Uhura. I also loved the OC's they're great. I do think one of my favorite scenes was Sarek at breakfast after Spock had gotten well and the bond had been re established, with Amanda running off to tell T'Pau and Sarek grumbling that he wasn't that bad of a telepath, and yet enjoying his breakfast in peace. That was great. Thank you. |
