Another fantastic piece...this tag so needed to be in the eppy! Sammy was so hurt by the demon and to see your take on it was wonderful. Awesome limpness and great big brothering...So very believable. From Dean's focus to save Sam, to getting his Dad out of there, to fearing he'd almost lost both, to realizing in the rush, he hadn't really assessed Sam. Dean is spot on, as usual, and Sammy is adorably limp! Thanks for the fix! As always, your writing makes me squee!

OH! The Sammy limpness, yes what it does to Dean, we just love :) Good stuff here :) Favorite part?

The closer and closer they got to finding this demon, the more alone he got, the more he lost of his brother and his father.

And their sense of fatalism didn’t help matters.

This wasn’t a fight his father expected to survive. This wasn’t a fight his brother intended to hold back from. This was the fight that they would both sacrifice themselves for, no questions asked.

At least no questions until the dust had settled and Dean found himself alone.

I can't imagine the pressure Dean must feel being the one who has to take care of the family; he's been doing it his whole life but that can't be something you get used to.

Great job; I could really feel his pain and terror.

Great filler on the in between parts in the show! Very enjoyable read!

Yay big thanks for filling in the worrisome and needling gap at the end of 'Devils trap' and what followed. Sam being pummelled literally senseless by the demon spawn from hell was too quickly glazed over in the finale. This one-off helps to give it the importance it deserved, exploring the viciousness of the attack and its subsequent impact perfectly. And yes Dean is an awesome older brother here.

Great stuff Faye. Perhaps even better if you took it off AU track and added more (hint, very big frigging hint) please!
