You better be planning on continuing this fic for some time. I like how you take it scene by scene... you drop into their lives and show us what's happening. I also appreciate that you actually show the medical side of things.

One thing that you may want to do is involve the other characters. I would love to see everyone being there for them in this. I know Tohma wouldn't let Eiri, Shu, or his niece-to-be very far from his reach. Hiro would be there for Shu at this time as well. Not mention Eiri's ever so amusingly-irritating siblings, and the rest of Bad Luck, that can't ever leave well enough alone.

I just love all their meddeling (in a positive since) into Shu and Eiri's lives
