Reviews for Prince of Winter
Nora chapter 1 . 11/25/2017

So I found this beauty a few days ago, and then had to go find and read Dark Leaf. I absolutely adore your writing. Your create such a vivid scene and narrative for even little things. Beautiful work. Please don't ever stop. Have you thought of posting Dark Leaf on here? It would make finding it much easier for those who only know this site. Anyway, love your stuff. Please never stop.

The Awsome one chapter 1 . 12/11/2011
I have never read Dark Leaf and hope to one day but I find this story very interesting.

I enjoyed the whole story. Can you tell me where I can find Dark Leaf?
Lia Whyteleafe chapter 1 . 10/18/2011
I read Dark Leaf about seven years ago, and this is a more than worthy follow-up.

I have to admit, I didn't understand about the wood/glass thing, and then I realised what he meant. Poor, poor Legolas. I enjoyed seeing a deeper side to the intriguing and fascinating Celeborn of Doriath - he hates seeing his young cousin in pain and takes such gentle care of him.

Remind me to stay on the good side of Saeros the Tracker. (Out of interest, how old is Ellinariel? She acts childish and immature, but she can't be that young, can she?)

Brilliant story!
ArwenFairTinuviel chapter 1 . 4/19/2011
This was so incredibly well written, and really long and in depth for a one-chapter story - unusual but I liked it a lot!

I have not read the Dark Leaf and so I feel like I am missing out on a lot more depth (this young Legolas is not entirely how I had imagined him, so traumatised, although the Thranduil behaviour is indeed perfect!), but even so I can still see a lot of the suffering that Legolas has been through, how broken he has been, making him so scared and unsure and suspicious. It's so touching to see the behaviour of the caring elves around him, trying to nurture him back to health and happiness.

Your interactions between characters are so realistic and believable, they way they speak and react to each other etc. I really like your portrayal of Celeborn - how understanding, loving, good at explaining, and ultimately moved by Legolas he is - and Haldir too actually, he's really good at giving Legolas space (a difficult thing to do, well done on portraying that so well).

The Winter Festival was so realistic of elves, just how I would picture it.

I love the way you write, the way you describe, the words you use captivate the quintessence of everything, I am very envious of your knack with words!

Stunning. Simply, simply, stunning.
ziggy3 chapter 1 . 9/8/2010
Still love this after all these years. So beautiful and sad but still hopeful. I so wish you hadn't abandoned DL - but I know how it is. (UNless you are posting on the Mirkwood site again- checked for years...) Dont even know if you will pick this up (God- I sound like some pathetic fangurrrrl of yours... oh, I am!)
Stardust0808 chapter 1 . 5/1/2009
I must say I found this story very endearing, but I wish I would have known more about Legolas' past. I am confused on a matter: is "Dark Leaf" a fanfiction story? Where is it posted because I do not see it in your stories list when I visit your profile. If you would be kind as to let me know so that I may read "Dark Leaf" I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Crystal Cat-Chan chapter 1 . 10/6/2008
Ai, Jasta...there are occasions when I get the overwhealming desire to come back and read one or all of your stories, the cycle seems to circle around every six months or so...this time, it was Prince of Winter, and I found myself sitting in the middle of a study room at school with tears in my eyes. It's as amazing now as the first time, just as heartbreakingly beauitful as I remember...of course, now the di have been cast and I'm going to be rereading through the entirety of Dark Leaf again... Which has always stood up to rereads with the aching beauty I remember, and there are not many stories that do so. Thank you for sharing your gift with everyone...
Insane Muse chapter 1 . 9/24/2008
It's been so long since I've read your fics, or any LotR fics for that matter. But I have to just say, that reading your work reminds me why I love Lord of the Rings so much.

Thank you for this. I love Darkleaf and was upset when they made you move it off of . It was such a superbly written story!
Aldalena chapter 1 . 2/26/2008
Beautiful! Absolutely stunning! I just couldn't stop reading and became so absorbed that I completely forgot I was tired...

I love the way you portray Legolas in this story! He's so cute! I don't like those elleth for saying such hurtful things about him...

I must say my favorite character in this story (besides Legolas) is Saeros. I love his personality! :D I laughed upon realizing what Saeros called that one elleth whose name escapes me...Ellinariel, that's it.

I sort of followed the ancestry... Got a little confusing, though...*cough* Okay, more than a litte confusing... but it was interesting nonetheless!

Oh, and I found Legolas' description of Celeborn so cute and funny! x3 “He looks like a big, beautiful snowflake!” Lol

So...this is definitely going in my Favorites! And I'm definitely adding you to my Favorite Authors list! And sorry for rambling! I got a bit carried away... but truly, this is a wonderfully well-written story that was a delight to read...not once, but twice in a row! Yes, it is that good. :D
Beverly chapter 1 . 10/12/2006
I am so glad I found this. It is absolutly beautiful. It has been a while since I have read "Dark Leaf"...but I have read it several times. I have yet to find chapter 17 though...so this was a real treat. The whole ceremony was enchanting. I had tears in my eyes at the part where Celeborn and Galadriel had Legolas walk between them as they would their own son...beautiful. Will there be more stories of Legolas' recovery? I long for him to become the beautiful, strong, capable, sweet prince he is.

Oh...and I LOVED that the..um..."bitch"...got what was coming to her.

Your writing is extraordinary...please ma'am...may we have more?

Peace

Beverly

P.S. Is there an ending to "Dark Leaf" somewhere?
ziggy chapter 1 . 7/14/2006
Hurray! YEARS of waiting repaid! Brilliant and beautiful and tender and just so breathtaking (gush gush)

Elrond warned Thranduil to expect Legoals to be mature in some ways and immature in others-and oh havent you done justice to Haldir - he is so lovely in this, waiting and knowing that legolas mumbles a bit and hums and has funny little habits but not bothering him. ANd this is the olny fic where I really really like Galadriel as a person rather than the very distant Lady she is the LOTR. ANd Celeborn gets his due and proper role. I had to go back and read it all over again- the whole of Dark Leaf, and then this, and then Leaf and branch and then everything else- at least once.

I think the way you show the legacy of abuse that Legolas lives with is not only very poignant, but also accurate. I recognise that distracted inward dialogue abused have with themselves sometimes, and that very slow trust, and mistrust of themselves. This is seriously insightful and thought provoking.

I like the Thranduilisms you give Legolas and it makes me miss him even more! So do you think you might write alittle chapter for Thranduil please?
Jazmin3 Firewing chapter 1 . 7/8/2006
This was absolutely perfect. I loved the ceremony that the four eldest elves did, it was old and scary and heavy with ritual. Also, Legolas in the aftermath of Dol Guldur is just the right amount chip-on-the-shoulder and scared little boy. A very nice Christmas-y, winter holiday story.
