I really liked your story. I thought it was a good portrait of the slow, but inextricable, march towards death terminal diseases force their victims into and the painful memories of life death brings with it. You also gave me a book recommendation, for which I'm very excited. The Book of Laughter and Forgetting looks like an interesting read.

Wonderful story. I love Chase, he is probably the most interesting character on TV and his relationship with his father has never been adequately explained. I liked your descriptions of Chase as a youth. I think you should write the story about what happened to Rowan's money- I always thought that maybe he blew all his money trying to pay for treatment, hanging onto life. I'll leave that up to you though :)

Excellent! Definitely a look at the father-son dynamic that I haven't seen anywhere else. I like the use of the oxygen mask, and the fact that he forgot and left it on as a little extra detail. Good work!

It's a pleasure to see a Rowan-centric story, where he's a man with regrets, not the cruel monster so many stories portray him as being. The unflinching look at his illness, interwoven with his memories-very nice!

Very nice musing.

There aren't many Rowan Chase fics out there, and most of them are mildly boring. This one didn't even have appearences of the show's characters, and it was simply *breathtaking*. The amount of detail in backstory, in history, the vivid images of young Chase in the photos, Rowan's quiet regret, completely captured me. Great work. (Got here through a rec, by the way.)

not only did i not find this at all pretentious, i was fascinated throughout the entire piece. the descriptions of the photographs were just wordy enough so that i could see them and not so wordy that i didn't have the opportunity to use my imagination. i am a big fan of chase-centric fanfiction and i really enjoy different points of view as well as establishing more backstory for the characters. i look forward to reading more of you work.

This is lovely. You've set just the right tone for Rowan as he looks back on his life. I particularly like his musing on whether Indifference had been added to the Catechism, in light of Chase's speech to House about learning not to care that his dad didn't bother to show up for events in his life. Rowan seeing his son's pursuit of mediocrity as defiance is also very well done. There's also a nice bit of underscoring of the difference between father and son, in that Rowan understands the humanity of medicine only at the end of his life, whereas it's something the son he doesn't know grapples with quite frequently.

Your description of Rowan's physical condition is very well done. My father-in-law died of lung cancer, and this is almost eerie in how it echoes the way he looked and behaved.
