Reviews for The Longest Night
Lara chapter 1 . 5/10
Hi Darynthe! Wow, thank you so much for replying, I only just saw your response! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the video, the link added to the 'tube' site leads me nowhere. Maybe if you tell me the name of the account under which you uploaded it and the video's name I can search for it! I'd love that! Thanks so much in advance and have a good week! Lara

Guest chapter 1 . 4/18
Hi there! I know it’s been 14 long years since you wrote this story but I only just found it (I have been obsessed with The Sound of Music since I was 6 years old and the magic I cherish about it changed along with my age and my life, always finding new fascination about this film and all it means. I am now 26 and had never thought, until yesterday, of looking for fan fiction about it but I did always feel that there were still stories to be told, things to be said between Maria and the Captain. I’ve read a few since I had the idea but all except yours were so out of character, too sexual and inappropriate for both of them, and it just felt like a bad romantic novel like the ones you get at train stations for 3$. Yours however was so faithful to the characters, with so much well thought out dialogue and event logic to it, the changes in emotion and thoughts they go through and the heart wrenching torture of admitting it to each other. It completely bewitched me and I’ve already read it twice since last night. Beautiful. I want to thank you for it and hope you will read this after so long, maybe your profile doesn’t even exist anymore. And if the video you wrote you made about them is still somewhere, can you please let me know how I can find it? Be well, Lara

I love it! xx
Guest chapter 1 . 7/18/2017
I love how the Sound of Music portrayed two very different romances
Maria and Captain's romance follows thje old fashioned courtly route. Despite their class differences and being 16 years age gap, in the first few scenes, anyone can tell by his eyes that he is engaged by her free spirit. Maria herself never expected to dfall for someone so high born- she herself did not really like the Captain at first. But as their discussions of dealing with the children made then slowly fall in love. The Captain is always a gentleman to her an d Maria's warmth and innocence melted his stone cold heart
Liesl may be Maria's mini me. But like other girls of herb age at that time, she is anxious and eager to fall in love, thus falling in love with the scandalous and ruthless Rolfe. She is no fool: she is raised with expensive education and her dialogue is always peppered with her astounding wit and big vocabulary. But she is naïve and innocent, and she rushed things with Rolfe. Liesl is on the road of coming of age and finally realizes-near the end- she still has lot to learn.

Loved your story! Read it in one go and I just couldn't stop reading till I had actually finished reading it entirely. Beautiful :)
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 13 . 1/15/2017
Beautiful ending.
Love how Maria's innocence means she doesn't know what she's doing to Georg, but that she has the confidence to tell him that's the case. The line asking him about whether what she had said was 'not wrong or unnatural' was, as Georg replied 'beautiful and correct'.
Love that they managed to have a passionate moment, but not go all the way. The way her question led to her telling him she loved him was beautiful, and the ending with the 'Yes, I'll marry you' and talk of contradictions and perks was adorable.

Such a sweet story.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 12 . 1/15/2017
Great!
Love how Georg immediately told her that he didn't expect an answer immediately. The way Maria was so startled by the question that her mind went immediately to all their differences was great, and all of her thoughts made sense; not fitting into his social class or Vienna, and how her opinion was the last thing on her mind.
For the exact reason that came up later; she has had nothing but pain and doesn't want to try. That part was so heartbreaking, but perfect for her. And Georg's response to what she said were brilliant in how they made her realise she did indeed love him.
The way she admitted she didn't have the experience to explain how she felt, but tried anyway was beautiful.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 11 . 1/15/2017
Wonderful.
You really stretched out what is happening between them, which I love because it's very welcome. Love how she called him by his name and said she was ready for them to talk.
The way he started talking about what she enjoyed and how that gave way to the rest of the conversation was wonderful.
Maria's comment about how, despite all the trouble she had caused at the Abbey, she was happy while she was there and had learnt a lot was a great touch, and the final line was beautiful.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 10 . 1/15/2017
WOW
Love how Maria's first thoughts were about Frau Schmidt, and how Georg used that as a springboard to start talking about what was happening between them. And it was a brilliant conversation; the way he told her he had been just as much a part of what happened as she was, that they did it together, and how he told her to stop talking in allusions.
LOVE how when he kissed her she choked out 'I can't' and ended with 'be an nun'.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 9 . 1/15/2017
Oh my!
Like the earlier chapter, the way their conversation was balanced was brilliant; he says she can't leave at midnight and she replies that there is a late bus and she has nothing of value to be stolen. She says she is merely an employee and he shoots back that she has acted the opposite from day one. BRILLIANT!
The line about Georg being violently opposed or completely in agreement with her decision to leave was a great touch.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 8 . 1/15/2017
GREAT JOB!
Love how easily everything went with Elsa and how well she took the news. The 'Go and tell her' was brilliant.
Also really enjoyed the conversation Max had with Georg; he was incredibly serious about what was happening, but didn't lose his charming persona.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 7 . 1/15/2017
Love how even the playing field was for their argument, from the fact that she is attractive, to the first names and who started that. The way Georg admitted he was jealous when Maria brought that up, and said he wouldn't do anything inappropriate with her was great.
Then Elsa interrupted. Dammit.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 6 . 1/15/2017
Nice idea to get Georg perspective and end this chapter at roughly the same place as the last one, rather than continuing.
The conversation between Elsa and Max was awesome, and I like how Maria was determined to say a proper goodbye to Emil even as Georg was dragging her away.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 5 . 1/15/2017
Really enjoy how Emil is looking out for her, even after he discovers she's going to be a nun. The way he closed his mouth after realising he possibly sounded harsh was great, and went on to defend her against the alligators.
Love how they were referred to as alligators.
Now what's Georg up to?
