Oh, wonderfully brilliant and the most penetrating look into Kyoya and Haruhi yet.

What is the price of Haruhi? It's a small question, half-idle and half-curious and the kind of musings people would consider as an afterthought. For Kyoya, the fact that he's considering it at all betrays more of himself in it than even what his friends thought they knew. His observations show that his attention never wavered far from where she is, and for all the magic he cast and the stage he set all his thoughts is for one player only.

Haruhi would always be a puzzle for him, but now the story had me wondering on a question I felt hovering just behind the shadows and there even if unsaid:

What would Kyoya be willing to pay and sacrifice for her?

I'd say more, but... :) Amazing description, great choice of words, a fantastic theme, perfect tone... completely gorgeous.

This is a really fantastic character study. You really sum up a lot of Kyoya's nature, and you also fabricated the tone beautifully. Those lines about the misty, gauzy light? That was perfect, and it meant that I imagined the entire story dim-lit and desaturated in a way that fit it all perfectly. Even more fabulous was the correlation between money and magic, which sums up a lot of Ouran's fairy tale atmosphere and Kyoya's worldview both at once. Using it to highlight Haruhi's different value set was equally well done. I had a lot of favorite lines and phrases in this one - "the game of faces," "It's a challenge of desire," that kind of thing. It's an incredible piece.

However, I have to say that I'm confused about the nature of the "domino masks", what they're supposed to look like and how they would be helpful. That's really the only complaint I have.

This is really great I have read a lot of kyoya story and this is the first one where he wasn't ooc good job!

I. Am. Completely in love with your writing style. And your lovely, lovely story, of course.

Your dissection of Kyouya's character is precise and intriguing, which isn't easy to come by in your normal fanfiction. It's a bit saddening to find that most romance stories are focused almost entirely on the physical relationship, but your oneshot was something much more refreshing and meaningful. Kyouya has been and will always be my favorite little schemer in the series, and thank you for reviving his character so wonderfully!
