Wow. I had never thought of his situation as something that could turn out like this, but once I hear your explanation, this seems so naturally justified. And terrrible, lending even more drive to fixing Al and restoring his body, because how long could Ed resist such a thing? And without Al understanding the real motive behind his words and the real meaning (draw) of the nightmares... Well...

*cough* On a more serious note, this was awesome! Poor Ed! (And stupid Ed!) Yeah, Ed's totally gaga over the whole knowledge thing, it comes right after Al. You really brought that to the forefront, combining it with his guilt and his immense love for Al. The last line was really poignant and disturbing. I loved it. *favs*

Very very creepy. I like the juxtaposition of the pain and pleasure Ed felt while in the Gate. Sometimes feeling good can be as agonizing as feeling bad. I can definitely see how it could be addictive. This could also explain why Ed doesn't focus on physical lust that much, he's looking for a bigger high. The way you portray Ed's guilt being enough for him to wish he could fix everything by just ending it is really cool too. What a great concept.

that is very in character for ed. I think your right about the physical lust thing, he is much to focused, but knowledge that great... Any at all curious person would probly be tempted.

Ed angst is my crack. . Loved it. This...is the true meaning of angst. You obviously thought about the idea quite a lot and developed it into a lovely one shot. Wonderful.

Wow... I'm still reeling from the psychological intensity of this...

I agree with CaptainKase. The parts "It wouldn't bother that much, having just four fingers... I can spare a finger... I won't sacrifice much." were really, really disturbing, in a chillingly thought-provoking way.

The emotional torture in this piece is just exceptional. I always did feel that Ed got the much rougher deal out of the human transmutation he and his brother performed; he had to be conscious, in horrendous pain, and be able to think and act quickly enough to fix Al's soul to the armour, while Al's soul was kind of drifting in that... space... thing... Ed being "almost" jealous of Al explores this idea quite nicely.
