Oh frak, that's a horcrux, isn't it? That's Salazar's equivalent of Tom's diary. And the implication is he used his snakes as sacrifice like Tom used enemies/random bystanders, probably because some bit of magic Salazar knows that Tom didn't.
The question is, is he content to stay a painting or is he going for a Sith resurrection - basically what Tom tried to do with Ginny?

I see why you abandoned this story. Perhaps you can salvage what's left of it and do a rewrite

This was absolutely intriguing and one of the most complex fan fictions that I've read to date. It kept me in its grip from the very beginning all the way through to the end of Chapter 89. While I totally support your right to stop writing if you were no longer enjoying it, I do wish that you had written the synopsis that you promised back in chapter 61. Even a bare bones one would be appreciated.

If I started to list the things in this tale that I love best, this review would easily rival the length of one of your longer chapters. I will say that I am most impressed at your development of just what Dark Magic is and how it goes well beyond the "Dark is evil" trope found in canon and in almost every fan fiction I've read over the past couple of decades. This story will go on my re-read list, and I will enjoy using my imagination to figure out just what the future will bring for Harry, Ginny, Salazar, Opa, and the rest with all of the challenges they face.

Hm. Well I'm confused by this story. I can't deny that it is well-written or that the plot is evidentially well thought out, but the fact remains that I find it somewhat confusing. 1. In the summer before Hogwarts you sometimes stated something about umbridge, and then you mentioned Sirius making it hard to deduce what year you were talking about (5th or 6th). 2. What is the idea of this story? Strip away the magic and what do you haveis it a story about trust or love or character development? I usually find that the best fics are the ones that reveal this early on in the first few chapters. 3. I love the OC characters. It's a nice change not to have the typical Mary Sue characters. Mercury is particularly intriguing. 4. Ron and Hermione were always a large part of Harry's life and whilst I do not like them much myself, I find that you should have explained their absence somewhat better. 5. Ginny is confusing to me. She is a well written character, but if you were to name her... Sally, I would not recognise Ginny within her. These are my first five points... I will continue reading the story and will give further feedback as I go along. Have a nice day!

I love this story! It seems to me that the list of commands given to the elves while Harry has been at Hogwarts is, more or less, proof of Dumbledore's paranoia and dementia and how far they've grown. Thanks for sharing your work!
