It just goes to show that it pays to be optimistic. I recently discovered the old "Combat!" series, and I'm watching it season by season on DVD. I also looked here at this site to see if I could find some fan fiction, and discovered your story. "How Hanley Got His Bars" was delightfully entertaining! I hadn't read this - thank you for putting it here. Silly, yes, but I enjoyed it. (I admit finding myself dreaming about those perfect green eyes and deep resonant baritone. And the recruitment poster probably would have worked!)

Just as I figured...Hanley couldn't have gotten his bars for his 'leadership' skills. Definitely, just another pretty face.:)
