What a wonderful ending to a good story.
This story has aged greatly for something made in 2005!

Where to start with this story and the characters?
Sonic and Tails have a believeable relationship that makes all the parts of the story pay off handsomely.
Tails has an innocence to him that makes you root for the little guy til the very end. He's just adorable and relatable. It's also heartbreaking to hear Tails own vision of Sonic being "the perfect hero" getting crushed when Sonic tears the comic book later on.
Sonic, while dipicted different, is a more rash version of himself that works here. Although his age bothered me, especially since he knows all kinds of adult references, Sonic was depicted perfectly for this readaptation.

I love how Sonic and Tails' bond grows throughout the story as they continue to fight for Mobius and defeat Robotnik.

Robotnik has his witty charm as usual and makes for a good antagonist for this story.
Mighty's inclusion was also something I can really appreciate as a Sonic fan.
And everything pays off with a great ending full of spirit and heart.

Overall, Rising Star shows how you can make a great readaptation of a video game and make it stand out in it's own way instead of being just a carbon copy of the original source...

Which makes me sadder over the fact that your Sonic 3 adaptation was abandoned and never finished.
If you do come back someday, please finish your Sonic 3 adaptation and make a Sonic 1 adaptation if you can, because Rising Star, is without a doubt, one of my favorite pieces of fanfiction.
I would LOVE to see more Sonic adaptations like this in the future.

I know it’s probably weird to be reviewing on super old stories...but these are seriously amazing. Tails is such a doorbell- excuse me I mean so adorable. And I’m glad you repaired mightys and Sonic’s friendship. They’re tension was great (even if mighty was being a jerk). Poor sonic - the kid was all alone! Not for long I guess P

I'll be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that the story up to this point didn't line up with either of the canonical versions of the events leading up to Sonic 2. In the Japanese version, (which as of Sonic Adventure has more or less overwritten the English version,) Eggman shows his ugly mug when Tails got his first look at the Tornado. In the English version, Tails invents the Spin Dash, then Robotnik happens. Also Tails isn't a social outcast I guess.

That said, I actually read this far, so you must be doing something right.

The part with Tails getting bathed is so cute along with his brotherly relationship with Sonic.

Genocide City oh boy I've seen the screenshots for this place and it looks creepy as heck.

Wow, you came very, VERY close to making me cry, which would be a first in all my experience in reading, television and movies. I don't even know what did it, maybe Tails' sheer innocence, combined with Sonic feeling dead inside caused some emotional reaction, but I'm definitely going to be taking some time out to read more of your work. It's been a heck of an emotional roller-coaster, and I can't wait to read Master of the Emeralds, which I'll be sure to do next.

A satisfying, lovely ending :)
Sonic beat the metal doppelganger and thus everything Eggman stands for, and when he wakes to a nearly-forgotten but cherished garden paradise, it is only a nightmare.
Tails MVP, bringing Sonic back to his childhood home :)) i'm glad that Mighty came around, and that Tails heard about Sonic's childhood :) And Sonic is free of the past. No more fear, no more regret. More nightmares will come, but he is no longer afraid :)

- truly, truly bad*ss, and yet also both tragic and magnificent. To younger eyes like Tails', perhaps this reeks of only coolness and courage - but adult victories are often hard-earned and joyless.
When Sonic met the metal doppelganger and pulls himself together while physically in pieces...i think that was when he really became the hero Tails thinks he is. A gory, messy and unglamorous moment, but incredibly beautiful.
You could put this up on ao3 too, this story is a gem and every Sonic fan should see it! Thanks again for sharing :)

Sonic has been pushed too far. Total bad*ss.
The part where he was still struggling with exacting justice/revenge - and decides he wants to finish it like Tails would have: that's really where Tails saved Sonic, i think. Sonic doesn't just depend on him for humour and life-saving backup.
This pain made Sonic drop the past - and if he hadn't, it would have haunted him forever. What he said to Mighty was exactly right. Onward and forward, our favourite blue hero! :)

i LOVED that shout-out to Sonic Underground xD i know most people on the 'net don't like it, but it was a childhood favourite of mine x) i still hope Sonic can fulfil that dream one day!

Poor Tails though. It's a good point to argue, and he shows his precociousness - is it worth risking your life for a world that rejects you? Sonic guides them both to the right choice, and it's heartwarming :)

That quiet, all important revelation :D 'That kid's a genius.' Sonic is the only one that sees it rn, but just as well. Tails is wasted on anyone else!
I felt so bad for Sonic this chapter..if anything, after a couple of years, his self-doubt, PTSD and bad memories only gain power in their pathos. Sonic too is very young :( He is handling it very well already, but not enough for a baby Tails... Tails threw it all away and is too young to understand that his gesture is selfless ;_; Then Sonic feeds Tails instead of himself, and he's a growing teenager! ;_; And they are both so matter-of-fact about it. Top-quality drama right there. Not a shred of melodrama and idk how u manage it! XD
I'm glad they work it out thoroughly and civilly. Lifelong friendships are built like this :)

Tails' argument about Cool Sonic and Not-Cool Sonic is so profound on several levels! Thank you for that! Not only for Sonic moving forward, but also for people defining themselves by their choices. Self-integrity. Lovely!

i've forgotten how good this was.
Sonic, young but forcibly hardened beyond his years, both reliving childhood and learning to take care of younger ones - Tails makes him both younger and older. More complete? Healing, i'd say, for both of them :)
And a cold cruel world, but friends save each other and keep each other on the high path :)
