You perfectly captured the hurt Gillard betrayed when he told Carissa, "He's on the edge". I really, really love this. "We never told each other a lot of things" is exquisitely tragic, providing images of many unspoken things between Gillard and Raynen that might-just might-have led things to turn out better than they did. And the ending-the ending is very touching and well done. Write more! (Well, you're going to have to if we're going to get that Trap/Carissa thing off the ground... -)

Wonderful, wonderful ficlet. It captures a side of Gillard that I think very much exists, but it's one Karen doesn't show us very much. I especially like the way you ended it.

I really enjoy narratives from the antagonist's perspective. Makes you see they're so much more than simple 2-dimensional, "evil" guys. I can actually sympathize with Gillard here... heh. Very nice. :)
