Tar Irene chapter 3 . 9/24/2010 you know, I never really thought it was an overreaction - I always just assumed it was the fruit of long planning to get rid of Zuko plus a priceless opportunity to put him out of line for the throne for good, leaving room for his brilliant gifted daughter to take over in his footsteps - until the day of black sun when he's confronted by zuko and he looks, well, surprised at the accusation that the agni kai was cruel. now I just don't know *what* to make of it... |
Tar Irene chapter 2 . 9/24/2010 I think canon!warden was too proud to resort to the "usual methods" of keeping order in prison camps. he wasn't really going easy on her; he was proving a point - to himself, his guards, his prisoners - that he was in absolute complete control of everything no matter what. I think it made the point far more effectively than a simple hanging would have. I mean, sans the coal and earth bending, that was what would have happened. The prisoners knowing irrevocably that they could not take the chance to hope even when it was practically forced down their throats. I'm sure Katara would have been dealt with appropriately soon enough... but probably silently. The warden's pride would depend on his control being much more subtle. |
