Reviews for Normal to Reality
yclui chapter 10 . 10/24/2013
I am going to be blunt: I did not understand much of this, and probably will not until i read it a few more times. But i DID enjoy the ride. Thanks for the story.
Anonymous chapter 10 . 4/7/2012
I have no idea what happened in this story.

I get that there were different post-second impact recovery layers, and that Mihiro eventually could move people between them. What I really want to know is, who was narrating the second-to-last section? Who is Nana?

I get that this is about connections, interactions, and how broken Shinji was. Beyond that, I'm not sure how much of Mihiro was real, how many of her interactions were Transplant OS versus Rei implementation, especially after their complementation, or even who shot her (though I assume it was ACTRESS).

Rampant confusion aside, this was well written, with very few mistakes. It got a little dense in some parts, but I found it quite appropriate to the series. The use of metaphor and figurative language, for instance, was both inspired and more effective than in the original show, as you were working from a primarily textual medium and not limited by visual images. This story took, I feel, full advantage of its format.

This is almost a post-modernist work by itself. If you find that to be a compliment, then rejoice. If not, then I'll appease you with the idea that this work was impressive in its own regard, if a touch confusing as the different branes were juxtaposed.

I do love that I got to use brane and juxtapose to describe this story, as well.

That was exhausting. I stayed up all night reading, rereading, and moving on even though I didn't quite understand. I really liked it, but god this reminded me of a lot of bad times with Faulkner. Although you should probably be flattered, being compared to him. Anyway I'm tired, but I enjoyed it, thank you.
The Mustachioed Cat chapter 9 . 2/13/2011
Humor: The Transplant OS featuring a fat, alcoholic Misato and a Supreme Commander Ritsuko. I'm guessing Ritsuko and Asuka worked together closely on that! XD

Well, it took a few years and a Kindle, but I finally made it through this. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Some close reading there at the end, but yeah, I think I got what I wanted from it.

Big fan.
Nagisa Akurei chapter 10 . 6/23/2010
I could read this over and over and still not quite get it. It's beautiful. I don't even know why I like it, I never liked Mana or Girlfriend of Steel, and yet here I was cheering for her. And Mihiro was brilliant. Fuck Yukie, though. Fuck her.

You are gifted. I hope to write mindfuck maybe 1/3 as well as you.
Greenfang chapter 10 . 4/15/2010
Wow!

A truly extraordinary story! Beautifully realised. Engrossing, frustrating and completely and totally involving. Everything Evangelion was and always will be.

You are definitely one of the greats of Evangelion Fan Fiction and while it was not the ending I had hoped for,( I admit I had wanted Asuka and Shinji to somehow reconnect within the context of the story), but the more I think about it, the more like cheating for the sake of a 'Happy' ending that would have been.

Brilliant stuff! Congratulations.

Ja.

"A writer stood before me with a smile for a pen.

He said he'd read a million souls, and never wrote again."

Thank you for your soul. It is beautiful.

If I may ask, will Mana ever leave her 'house'? Her character has resonated with me in a very profound way; I'd like very much to read her again some day.

Squire of Gothos chapter 9 . 2/15/2009
After reading the live-journal stuff, and rereading the entire thing in one sitting, it all makes sense (I'm just slow). Beautiful story
Squire of Gothos chapter 1 . 2/13/2009
wow

I just finished reading the last three (four?) chapters in one sitting, and afterwards I just stared blankly for a while.

Then I went to your profile to look for your other stories (darn you, you're like heroine) and I passed by the 'Normal to Reality' story, and when I read its preview tag, 'Look at me, I'm right here' I just about broke into tears. Damnit, I'm going to reread this story and try to find an Asuka-happy point, and stop there.

I beg of you, tell me something happy about Asuka so I'll feel better, please tell me tell me te-

This is the closest thing I've read to an actual NGE story since Darckredd's stories. This outshines anything I've read. Anyway, I'm not saying anything that's not been said before, so just add this to the feathers in your cap. Honestly, this story bent my mind so much I can't comment on anything in particu- wait that's not true. Some people in their reviews said they hated your, um, strange and compelling writing style with its colorful descriptions. Don't listen to those people ;-) Just thought I'd cast my vote with those who loved your writing style. Somehow you managed to make every chapter full of those strange descriptions, and never reuse anything.

Pure concentrated awesomeness
Sash'Rahaal chapter 10 . 1/31/2009
This was good. Incredibly, awesomely GOOD. I deeply enjoyed this story from start to finish, and just try to stop me from biting into every other story in your profile now that I'm finished this one.
Devaro Ayanami chapter 10 . 11/30/2008
Wow...

That's all I can say really. It was...I'm not sure...wow.

Twists and turn, jumping from one reality to the next, forward and backward in time.

Always making me ask if THIS time it's real, or just another dream or hallucination.

Amazing!

I've not read this good of a brain-twister in a long while.

The only negative I could think of would be that I am not sure what the ending was. What happened to Asuak, Shinji, Mana, "Kaworu", and the others?

Still, despite or perhap BECAUSE of the that: Wow.

Keep Strong!
NemesisZero chapter 9 . 5/2/2008
Wow this is heavy... like trying to burrow one's way through a metric ton of blueberry marmalade using only the underdeveloped musculature of one's eyebrows.

Reading this makes me feel like I'm well beyond drunk and crashed out on a far-too-comfy couch in the back corner of a party hosted by people I know but who don't know me. I think the stream of consciousness presented here is just close enough to my own to register as something other than white noise and just far enough away from my rhythm to interfere.

It is... agreeable.
This is my name chapter 10 . 4/18/2008
Spoilers

So, Shinji is in an alternate reality created in some other dimension during Third Impact. His body was still in the real world, but Asuka killed it when she realized that he would never return. Asuka then destroyed all the AT fields in the real world, since she couldn't have Shinji. Mana, Asuka, Maya, Yukie, and countless other people are trapped between the two worlds. Mihiro was somehow partially Rei, and So was actually Kaworu. All of the characters mentioned so far are technically dead. Shinji, Hikari, Kensuke, Mihiro, and So just keep living their lives, and I imagine Misato, Ritsuko, while Mana just... exists. How close am I?

On an unrelated note, I think the funniest line in this story was "The image of a giant rabbit named Frank popped into his head." I'm not sure why, but the reference had me burst out laughing.
