Thank you for this evocative story!

Fantastic! I love seeing outsider POVs and Boyce was perfect. It's fun to see how Pike's old crew reacts to Spock especially in contrast with the "new" crew of Bones and Kirk.
Sally chapter 1 . 11/2/2019
I just reread this story...you did such a great job writing this! I love the exchanges between Spock and Boyce. The stuff the Doc says, makes me think up moments in my mind, like flashes of a very Young, inexperienced Spock, first coming aboard the Enterprise under Pike, then moments of Spock on Missions with Pike, learning and growing...and forming this attachment, that maybe until the Moment in time when Pike is so critically injured and Spock does the Ultimate to take him to Talos IV...EVEN THE Vulcan had no concept of his...connection to his .first Captain, that Father Figure! What a transition for Spock...and what an amazingly difficult Role for Kirk to step into after Pike, given parts of Pike’s crew remained.

You are a wonderful writer! Have you done any Star Trek Novels that have been published that I missed? If so, please let me know, my email is .

If not, you might consider taking this collection of you fanfics that started with Boyce going after Pike about keeping his Officers for too long, and developing it into a Novel. You would do a fantastic job, I think, step by step, showing how Spock reacts to the new crew, struggling to figure out his place among them, how does he relate to and interact with Kirk, especially with Mitchel in the way, also how does he and or Kirk deal with the Pressure from Vulcan and even Command to give into the Politics of forcing Spock to leave and do what Sarek has always demanded? Gosh I sure hope you might consider the idea...we need some new, good, Trek Novels based on the Early Trek Years! Thanks!

This was a great idea!
Probably one of the few occasions where you'd see Spock getting a fatherly lecture, which, with Spock being Spock, made for an interesting dynamic... though he's also recognizable as not quite as old & wise as he'd eventually be.

McCoy's entrance was absolutely perfect.

Very good.
gibbsheroic27 chapter 1 . 12/13/2014
This is beautiful : ) And while I love Phil Boyce, and he obviously meant well and had a few good points, I liked the contrast you hinted at between the two doctors-Boyce saw Spock's biology and his differences and, while he tried to help, didn't truly understand or believe in him. Bones will eventually do both, and accept Spock for who he is. Lovely character piece : )
PrayerGirl chapter 1 . 4/2/2014
This was very good!
WeirdLittleStories chapter 1 . 10/28/2013
Mitchell is not and never was First Officer; Spock was XO from the moment Kirk assumed the captaincy. Nice story otherwise.
Linvalay chapter 1 . 8/25/2013
i very much enjoyed this and your take on Spock's adolescence so to speak. Even though he is older and longer lived, i didn't really equate that to them having longer phases on growing up. I really did enjoy this, the first meeting of McCoy and Spock is always a treat
ebonypol chapter 1 . 8/22/2013
This was very IC! Loved it! Espiecally te first meeting if McCoy and Spock :D
SparklyLalala chapter 1 . 5/2/2013
Oh that was beautiful :sniffles and blows her nose: just so very lovely. I'd love to read more on Spock and Kirk's meeting, and how it came to be a home for all of them and them a home for each other. So very lovely...
fanficfan71 chapter 1 . 1/19/2010
It's interesting to read about Spock in his younger years. I enjoyed the dialogue between Spock and Dr Boyce. Thanks
