It is not mechanical devices that don't work it is electrical and if his leg didn't work then people wouldn't be able to walk in Hogwarts because they couldn't use the bodies energy to move their limbs.

This was a rather interesting crossover between FMA and Harry Potter. I don’t think I’ve read another yet where Ed was undercover as a student while NOT being able to use magic himself, or a fic where Mustang was liaising directly with the Ministry of Magic rather than Dumbledor’s OoP. It allowed Ed and Mustang to interact (incredibly well in character) with the world of magic from HP. There seems to be a bit of a break down when the humunculi try to interact with magical Britain though.

I think it might be because no one from HP really seems to know anything about the humunculi, while the humunculi just seem kinda there to give Voldemort hints on what the alchemists can do and how to go about attacking them. Not to mention the reasoning for why the humunculi are doing anything with magical Britain in the first place isn’t really affecting the humunculi’s action (can they eat magic? Do they want to try and use magic or magical souls with the excess energy for their goals? Is Voldemort actually a kind of humunculus that Father and his ‘children’ decided to investigate?). The motivation for the humunculi butting in needs to be hinted at, at the very least, more in the next chapters.
