GlaringEyes chapter 38 . 4/21/2012 Outstanding, epic story! The plot, the sub-plots... everything contributed to make this story so eye-binding that I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. The change of POVs between chapters gives a special wavering feeling on the reader, as it soothes the tension of a particular character, shifting it to the next. Your narrative is quite amazing as well. The way you describe the characters' perceptions, the eerie feelings the town gives them, the thougths they have when they are alone. That's exactly the effect I try to replicate on my own SH fics. Of course, only description and no dialogue nor action makes the plot boring sometimes. I daresay that there were some parts in your narrative which I simply overread because too much description tires the mind. Just to finalize, let me compliment the awesome way you plot-tied the four first SH games. It's almost a pity that it didn't include the plots of SH Origins and Homecoming, as they were released after the story's end (although, for a moment, I thought the flanel-shirt man in the Lamb bar to be Travis). "Henry and Eileen were the only two living humans in the world who would be able to relate to him" Well, I wonder how Travis and Alex would add to that equation? Great story! Looking forward for your next works! |
GlaringEyes chapter 31 . 4/21/2012 Yay! Finally everyone's reunited! The 'Justice League', as Douglas had placed. Now they have a real chance of standing against the town's powers. I found it really sweet how Heather said 'I trust you' to Henry. It's great to see that, despite her messed up past, she's lucid enough to show comradery towards people who have been through the same as her. Your story is the only one I've read so far that makes the parallel between the Order's two rituals to summon God. You certainly did you homework on that. |
GlaringEyes chapter 30 . 4/21/2012 "It must have been meant for a very young child" / "and were trying to possess her, in a sense". Very few fics have managed to thrill me, but I could almost relate to Eileen when I read those lines. Man, the hair on the back of my neck stood up as I recognized that room. Really like the philosophical talk between Steven and Miriam, just as Steven and Walter. Steven's probably the most intelligent character in this story, isn't he? Too bad, he had to end up like that. For a moment, I really thought the 'other cop', the one who was helping Steven, was Cybil Bennett. That would have made the story! |
GlaringEyes chapter 25 . 4/21/2012 "He couldn't shake the feeling that he was being guided somehow, by some unseen hand, perhaps some bored kid with a video game controller" I cannot help but find very opportune those times you break the 4th wall. Many fics do, but you manage to do it in a very suitable way. Another example is when, at the beginning of certain chapters, you give the reader a 'picture' of what's up to happen. Some could say it's a spoiler, but for me it only picks my appetite up. |
GlaringEyes chapter 23 . 4/21/2012 Did I ever say you have a talent for writing tense and scary scenes? Man, I was afraid myself reading this chapter, especially during the phone talk and when Steven had to rush up to the locker and fetch the items (it didn't help I was reading it at nighttime, alone). Poor Steven, to end up like that after all the trouble he's been through. |
GlaringEyes chapter 19 . 4/21/2012 So James is the mysterious Green Coat guy? I daresay I suspected it was him after all (I mean, his green coat is his trademark feature), but had my doubts since it seemed too OoC of him. Only after finishing the story, I understood why he acted like that. Very clarifying this interlude. This chapter perfectly works as a guideline for most of the rest of the story, and a compilation of the first half of the story. And about the 'woman with child'... man, I only came to understand it on the last chapter! Awesome! |
GlaringEyes chapter 14 . 4/21/2012 That scene in the bank was really tense! Especially when the guards started talking among themselves. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen until Henry and Walter were driving off to Silent Hill. You do a wonderful job on creating tense scenes. About Eileen, I think she's acting kinda... bitchy. I mean, the guy's a priest, saved her from an accident, didn't call the police and even gave her a ride to Silent Hill. And the way she talks to him feels almost as if she's PMS-ing right then. Is she somewhat possessed or anything? |
GlaringEyes chapter 7 . 4/21/2012 I know I'm very late at reviewing, but just recently I've found this one. And I must say it's awesome! It deserves to be reviewed even now, five years later. Great revelations in this chapter! Now Walter struck a nerve on Douglas. The detective wouldn't simply let pass someone else who knew about Silent Hill 'strange' events. It worked awfully right to the maniac. |
Arktos chapter 8 . 5/20/2009 ' It's a sad but true fact that guys like Henry Townshend seem to be very, very good at screwing themselves. ' Better turn of phrase would be 'screwing themselves over', but other than that it's a pretty fair start to the chapter. Also, a grown man giggling is an...odd thought, but I may be biased in judging that word choice. ' He eyed them with the respect one might give to the kind of spider that can bite through one's foot. ' I laughed. Mostly because it was funny, but also because the thought scared me. O_o Actually, I rather liked Henry's internalized character development in this chapter. Fleshed him out a bit and added something appropriately calm-before-the-stormlike. I especially liked a lot of the description this chapter...it seemed smoother somehow, easier to get into than the previous ones. The bit with the priest was especially telling in that regard. I...can't see Eileen watching King of the Hill, but eh. I don't think you needed to explain what happened already in the games either. But, good chapter. Definitely keep me reading. |
Arktos chapter 7 . 5/20/2009 Now this is definitely interesting. Walter seems to be drifting between the actual Walter Sullivan we know who manipulates people, and a typical guy who has strange delusions and accepts all this a bit too easily...intriguing, I'm looking forward to seeing how you pursue this angle. Seems like there are still a lot of pieces to the puzzle missing, and I wonder how you'll fill them. I especially like the tie-ins to canon (Dahlia, Claudia, etc.) that seem to be popping up lately. I'd still recommend a rewrite, but things are starting to make a bit more sense and follow a more logical train of thought (well, as much as Silent Hill EVER follows logic anyways XD). |
Arktos chapter 5 . 5/20/2009 Oh I see where you're going with this. Might have been a good idea to tip us off sooner, though. And I think these cops are a bit too incompetent...even if this is Walter Sullivan were talking about here, I'm not really getting the sense that there's any point to having his in jail except exposition. The weird 'D-man' nickname for Douglas didn't really fit either, since I guessed it was him as soon as I read his description. Kind of sloppy, but...yeah, early writing, so I can forgive that one. That said, the Cartland and Sullivan exchange there was brilliant. It had me impressed...as did the sinister hinting that the second Walter has something nasty up his sleeve, which was subtle and pretty well done. I really hope you revise this someday, because it seems to have a lot of potential despite flaws. ESPECIALLY when Walter heads through the hole...oh man, you really had me there with that car. And the whole conversation with Walter. |
Arktos chapter 6 . 5/20/2009 You get points for the Back to the Future reference, even if it was slightly jarring. And for Douglas being a smug but magnificent bastard towards Walter; I always knew he had it in him! XD No real complaints with this chapter, at least not any worth mentioning. -shrugs- Anyways, good job, I think I'll stick around a few more chapters. By the way, I'm resubmitting the previous review since I was logged out, so would you mind deleting that? Sorry, reviewing system was being a bitch. |

Arktos chapter 4 . 5/7/2009 This is...bizarre...I'm not used to seeing Walter as an ordinary guy. Furthmore, I don't even...aww hell, it's obvious I should just keep my suspension of disbelief on I guess. Well...good chapter I guess? |
Arktos chapter 3 . 5/7/2009 Henry...WOLF WHISTLING? Wha...? That seems so utterly unlike his character that...I mean, it really doesn't fit at all. Sorry, this was a decent chapter for the most part, but Henry is still incredibly OOC. I'd fix that if I were you. And as much as it pains me to say this, Harry isn't God and he was in hiding until most of his death...it's safe to say he just published novels and, for the most part, kept a low profile. Uh...kudos for bringing Heather in though? I always kind of wondered what would happen if the authorities got wind of Harry's murder, what with her being his only apparent relative and crying on him when she found the body... |
