The idea that Jack only trusts himself to tease Elizabeth about their relationship in Will's presence is so poignant. Using the variety of names is a great choice. And then he keeps his distance because he doesn't want to betray his friends. Very powerful. You say so much with so little.

Whoa! This second one is also terrific. Will removing Jack's brand with hot iron again. Ouch! And Jack, who knows what it will feel like, being stoic for as long as he can. Your choice of words made me shiver. I'm off to see what else you've written.
