evansentranced chapter 8 . 6/27/2010
oh no, I was really hoping this was complete. Well either way, it's beautifully written and you have some serious talent, which I'm sure you're aware of and have even improved upon, five years later. Good luck in whatever you're doing now! Hopefully that involves writing. :)

Anaesthetised chapter 8 . 4/10/2008
Your writing style fascinates me.

It seems like this story is unfinished - but honestly, the end of Chapter 8 could well be the end anyway.

Brilliantly done.

Why don't update this? It's been about three years sinc eit was touched, but it's such a well written story! I love the way Draco is a sub without really being a sub, but he's also not very dom when it comes to Harry. All the parts I like about a Ds story are here, but you haven't touched it in so long!

Kirinin chapter 8 . 5/8/2007
Wow. Need I say that I truly wish you'd continue...? It *has* been two years, though...

First I'd like to say that holding out with present-tense for so long was well-done; I've only seen it executed so well in far shorter stories. So many people slip into past tense or - for some odd reason - end up sounding overdramatic in present tense. But your story increased the feeling of tension and immediacy without doing either.

The relationship between Draco and Harry is slow and sweet, here, which again lends more credence to the tale. Stories with a pre-established relationship seem a bit of a cop-out (because I can't help thinking: *Draco? Harry? How?*) and stories where they randomly jump into bed together are worse. The only thing I would say is that Draco's subservience to Harry, while intriguing early on, took on the proportions of the worrisome in the scene when Draco wouldn't... er... without Harry telling him he could. I see from your other one-shots that a subservient Draco is your thing, and he truly works well in this story. But that part might have stretched slightly beyond believability, unless you've made him hexed or cursed to obey Harry. He is, well, a sixteen-year-old boy.

The feeling of despair that permeates this story might be the quality that makes it stand out the most. You've managed it so well - it is honestly and compellingly dramatic without diving into angst or bathos. Harry's conscious decision not to hate Dumbledore, Gryffindor's determined (and successful!) effort to lift Harry free from his funk, Harry's new analysis of Snape's character, and the earnest and hopeful affection between your two main characters, so very warm and real, lift this story from possible overdrama, lending it a sweet, grave air. All is not right in Harry's world, but not all is wrong, either; he manages to find and keep little moments of joy, and those moments are what makes the story so wonderful to read.

At least you didn't halt the story on a cliffhanger, but there are quite a few questions that sit unanswered: who attacked Draco? What did Draco say, exactly, that so incensed them? And... well... the less obvious question: is Draco being what Harry needs just in the same way that he is also being what everybody else needs? He rarely begins the interactions with Harry - the implication, slight though it may be, is that he is doing what he has to do in order to keep Harry sane; and that when this is all over, he may well go and be what *he himself* most needs...

Lovely - and I do hope you continue / finish.

Thanks,

-Kirinin
