Reviews for The Sound of Breaking Plates

The BEST gorillaz fanfiction I've came upon. :)
uh-oh-5-O chapter 9 . 11/24/2012
I shit you not, this is the best Gorillaz story I have ever read. And one of the best parts of this story was that there wasn't any romance/slash here that made it riveting, just friends/family relationships, and that is partly what made me love this story. The concept was another major factor that I love about it, a dog/angel bringing the Gorillaz closer together and had given each of them more peace at mind. This story was so touching, and the characters acted so realistic...I just love it.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you writing this great piece of fan fiction. You have inspired me beyond almost any fan fiction story I have read. Your word usages were great and amusing btw. Beautiful work, with some simplicity to it considering it was only 9 chapters. This is totally going in my faves.

First let me say that you did a phenomenal job with this. Just...brilliant. Freaking brilliant. I've never seen a story like this. The themes and characterization and feelings and emotions that you put into this were, in a word, orgasmic.

I know this was written a long while ago, but, gahhh. it was great.

Amazing job. I'll be reading the rest of your stuff now!

So long and good job,

Tokyo Tea chapter 1 . 6/18/2010
That was. Wow.

So, I just finished reading your entire story. And let me tell you...it blew me away.

I admit, my friend was the one who recommended that I read this story. But after reading the summary, I had my doubts. (no offense).

Nevertheless, my friend BEGGED I read the entire story through. So I did. Because though she had told me in the past many-a-time about stories I should read, any die-hard exceptional ones she comes across she begs that I read them.

(just to give you an idea, she begged me to read Harry Potter when it was just released when we were like in the third grade and NO ONE knew who Harry Potter was at that time...and I for real read the summary for harry potter and thought...this book is going down the shitter...)

Ha, so much I knew.

I should just not read summaries any more.

Because like i said, this story was amazing. I mean, it was beautifully amazing. I wish I could give you a medal or something to distinguish your quality of writing. But hopefully my review will suffice as merit.

First, your characterizations of everybody was perfect and beautiful and I don't know how you did it, but you managed to take characters I already had a heart for (despite their highly-dysfunctional manners) and mold them into characters with exceptionally beautiful and sympathetic qualities - yet still staying in canon! Can I just say, wow?

Seriously, if you ever publish an actual novel (which you need to), update something on your profile solely to promote it so I can buy it and recommend it to at least twenty other people.

(sorry, if you can’t already tell, this review is a mix of critical appraise/starstruck fan craze).

Second, your writing is phenomenal. I mean, your descriptions were beautiful and your dialog was witty and sarcastic and passionate and you had me up till 3 in the morning reading everything, so I hope you are happy your writing skills have the mastered ability to make a reader lose sleep over your stories because I am one of them. I was so captivated by your writing, it was near impossible for me to stop reading till I finished.

And can I just say how perfectly organized the themes your incorporated were? Like, the “golden valley” and scenes with Styx, and the breaking dishes? At first, they all struck me as meaningless events, but the fact they were dramatically written made it all the more intriguing. And honestly, I was so won over by the quality of this story that I would not have cared if themes like the “golden valley” and Styx and the breaking dishes had amounted to nothing. But the fact they DID completely won me over and by the last chapter, I was crying. I mean, I legit teared up. Which is crazy. Because I never cry when I read anything. And not to bring up Harry Potter twice, but I did not even cry when Sirius died and he was my favorite character.

(The only other time I can think of when I cried while I read something was when I read Doctor Zhivago…ok? THAT IS HOW EMOTIONAL YOU MADE ME! I am comparing you to Pasternak, for Christ’s sake. And that man was brilliant.)

Anyway, brilliant story. Brilliant characterizations. Brilliant overall writing. It disappoints me you have no other stories written, but my fingers are crossed that you are investing your talents into something else that is original!

Just don’t stop writing, whatever it is you are doing. You are such a brilliant writers. Don’t let your talent go unnoticed.

Thank you for writing such a well-written story.

WOW! that has to be the best story ive ever read, i was crying so much that i found it hard to read though all my tears as well as laughing at muds constant swearing. the way you disribed styx reminded me of my auntys dog, who allways used to tilt his head to one side.
oroborous chapter 9 . 4/5/2006
Jesus.

You know I never thought I'd be so deeply moved by.. a fanfiction about an animated band. (despite my absolute love for them -heart-)

This fic was bittersweet. And gorgeous. and adjectives I can't think of right now because when it comes to thoughts and speaking, I'm much more 2-D and much less Noodle.

The end of the eighth chapter and the whole ninth had me in tears.

Glorious.

You really have a knack for emotional writing. -heeart-
Hillside Dancing On chapter 9 . 2/5/2006
This is a true gem among Gorillaz fics, unlike any other out there. It's beautiful, tragic, touching, and the writing flows like music. But it was the ending that made me realize I was really reading something special.
Quasimagical chapter 9 . 2/5/2006
If my stupid sisters weren't around right now, I would burst into tears! This is the best fic I've ever read in my entire life! I loved it so much! You did such a good job with everything! Styx was the cutest thing in the world! The last paragraph on Styx's thoughts made me cry so much! You did a wonderful job, DA. Blessings from Heaven to you! *hugs*

Quasimagical chapter 5 . 2/5/2006
:o Whoa, that sounds like something I would say about believing it'll work it else it won't! Only I put my faith in Yahweh(God) instead of plates! I'm still gonna try the plate thing, though. :D
