'he would only have one chance to steal from Hogwarts' - I liked that line; it made it seem as though Hogwarts is something sentient rather than just a building. Interesting drabble, I'd not really thought about how or when Slytherin made the Basilisk before - although I believe a Basilisk egg is a chicken's egg hatched under a toadstool, so an actual toad would have nothing to do with it and Slytherin would never need to go 'looking for a toad'.
