Elfrieda chapter 1 . 3/17/2005
Wow - these keep getting better every time, honestly. I loved the whole thing.

The introduction of Jett was brilliant, and the way that all the events and conversations of the day led up to Gabrielle's loss of blood innocence was very skillful indeed. I especially like how alt-Gabrielle reacted to that loss in a different way from the "real" Gab, who, by that time had been travelling with Xena for a couple of years, and was shattered when she realized that the cycle of violence wasn't going to end with her. I'm not really a Gabrielle fan usually, but I am enjoying the character development with alt-Gabrielle - I find her much more sympathetic than "real" Gab; she's much more world-weary and a bit more cynical, but still compassionate.

The writing is superb, and the dialogue and the characters seem dead-on. Great job!

I was sure that I knew everyone still writing Caesar fic, and was delightfully surprised to find this series. I love the AU you've created (the world of "Armageddon Now" wasn't very fleshed out, but you've done that wonderfully), and all the consequences it implies. I like the dynamic between Gabrielle and Caesar, Gabrielle's nearly endless compassion and Caesar's inner turmoil (esp. about Rome). I can't wait to see where you go with this next (and I'd definitely love to see the prequel to this series, even if it died in the middle).

Bravo! Not sure which parts of this story you don't like, but I thought it was gripping from start to end. Caesar's behavior toward the group of Romans was very believable, and his assertion that Xena would not have spared Rome even if he HAD given himself up raises some interesting issues. I think C,JC has a point! I absolutely LOVED what you did with Jett as a convert to Najara's cult, and also the way you had Gabrielle lose her blood innocence.

Great stuff!
