I was reading this wonderful story and wanted to leave this gentle reminder. While you had written that the story was 8 years old? Now, it has reached 10! Will it be finished? Or have you been hit with the "no longer care about Naruto and Sasuke" virus? If that's the case, I completely understand. I want to say thank you for sharing what you have written and thought.

This story is unique among the fics I've read where Naruto goes away in that stuff happened with Sasuke while Naruto was gone. Usually, it's the opposite: Naruto finds someone new, gains new powers, or generally changes in some other way, like suddenly becoming incredibly handsome. (These fics tend to Gary Stu-ize Naruto.) In comparison, the Sasukes in those fics never change at all while Naruto was gone. They just sit around moping and pining for him. In this case, Sasuke made a new friend while Naruto was gone, and may have gotten romantically involved with him. That's actually A LOT more realistic than how these fics are usually written. As we know with soldiers who go off to war, there's a good chance their significant others won't be waiting for them when they get back. That's kind of the situation in this fic. Naruto went off and fought the good fight, now he comes home thinking Sasuke may have had an affair.

But did Sasuke actually do anything with Tsugi? I surely hope he didn't. The fic has been ambiguous enough on this point that Sasuke may still be innocent. I'd be sad if it turned out he wasn't since you've dangled the possibility that he may not have cheated on Naruto for so long that it would be a disappointment if he did. Like if the fic had made what happened between Sasuke and Tsugi clear from the beginning, then we could have been working on trying to forgive him this whole time. But if we find out that he cheated at the end of the fic, there won't be enough time to forgive him, you know?

I think this is essentially a simple story, but the flashbacks have a tendency to make the fic more complicated than it needs to be. At this point, I feel a little exasperated with the mysteries and just want them solved already. Like if we'd gotten a full chapter that showed exactly what happened during the year Naruto was gone, a lot of things would be clearer instead of reading about it in bits and pieces. In addition, with that mystery solved, we could move on and focus on all the conflicts brewing in the present. However, we're now stuck wading through the mysteries of the past while simultaneously dealing with the current problems between Naruto and Sasuke. This is a problem because Tsugi has just returned, and under mysterious circumstances. I think if you're going to introduce a new mystery into the story, then one of the old mysteries has to be solved and put to rest first; otherwise, the plot becomes a bit muddled.

Essentially, at this point what we still need to know is what really happened between Sasuke and Tsugi and what the bad guy wants from Naruto. These are the main issues that need to be resolved and the rest doesn't matter so much. The story is suggesting there's something more with Tsugi than meets the eye, which is fine, and even perhaps that the bad guy may be connected to all of this, which is also fine. I just hope that the narrative threads start pulling together soon. Why is the bad guy after Naruto? Why did Naruto come home if he thought the bad guy might follow him? Why won't Naruto tell anyone what really happened while he was gone, especially if Konoha might be in danger? (I can't tell if Naruto left things out of his mission report or if he told the entire truth.) What about Naruto's team? They haven't been in much of the present-day fic (mostly the flashbacks), but they don't seem to be as haunted by the mission as Naruto is. Do they know as much as Naruto does about the villain?

Anyway, I hope you do end up finishing this story. Even with its imperfections, it's an entertaining read. I feel like the fic is pretty close to the end and doesn't need much to finish it off. Tsugi's arrival could be the tipping point that leads to the final confrontation with the story's villain. (I get the impression the bad guy has been playing mind games with Naruto in order to get hold of the Kyuubi. Maybe that's where Tsugi comes in, like he wanted to drive a wedge between Naruto and his most precious person.) After that, it's just a matter of Naruto and Sasuke sorting their shit out.

The story is fantastic! I love the way you have portrayed Naruto and Sasuke and well, everyone! Though I must admit, the latest chapter seems like it's from another story and did not make sense to me.

You have to many unneeded flashbacks that feel too much like fillers, you're making your story boring.

That was really good and well written, the whole thing :) I gotta say, I adore Tsugi and what he does to Sasuke (for now anyway). He seems like a fun, jerk-tastic kind of character and he adds so much more depth to Sasuke's character, I love it. Thank you for writing this fic, and I look forward to seeing more.

I have never read a Sasuke-Naruto pairing ever before but your story is just awesome, it's intriguing because I want to know what happened to Naruto and his team on the mission, I want to know what Tsugi's presence does to Naruto and what happens in the end.
