fairyneko chapter 1 . 7/22/2006 i'm guessing i'm the only fan you got now...i suspect that would change if you actually updated for the first time in...oh...1 and a half years? |
CraftAndBurn chapter 1 . 12/25/2004 Hm. Not bad. I'm guessing that either you aged between twelve and fifteen, are male, and English might not be your first language. If not, then I'm so sorry XD I hope you don't take offense to what I just said. Anyway, not too bad a beginning. I've been fanfiction writing for about five years, and there are one or two things I'd like to point out and share with you: 1) Try not to spend too much time going over things the reader has already seen, such as the material in deep dive, etcetera. This causes your reader to skip-read. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES do you want your reader to skip-read. 2) Always use left-alignment. When I began writing fanfiction, I too liked to use the centre alignment. You learn over time that it causes the reader to get distracted and not read the start and ends of lines as they're so used to starting right at one side of the page. 3) You do use some description, but not an awful lot. You need to try and be more elaborate in your description of what is going on. Not only in actions, but in the characters' facial espressions, their thoughts and feelings... Remember that, fanfiction or original, writing is an art form - treat it like one! _ 4) You need a beta-reader. If you have one, he or she is doing a bad job. Grammar and spelling is not everyone's strong point, that's what Beta-readers are for. But you need to make sure that that person DOES have a good grasp of spelling and grammar. You should also use spellcheck and read it over again for yourself, to reinforce this. _ I think that's about all. I'll be favouriting this to keep an eye on your progress. EK |
