This was just exquisite. Fantastic imagery, lush characterizations. The whole concept of the Pearl as a fickle mistress was almost too delicious to bear! I loved the way you wrote this from Barbossa's point of view, and that ending line is just marvelous. And by the way, LOVE the title.

I really loved this. Gritty and brutal portrayal of Barbossa. And the Black Pearl is perfectly characterized-like her name vicious and beautiful and tragic. The battle between her and Barbossa is excellent. The tension and emotion of your word choices is so poetic. And the fact that Jack has always loved her and she learns to appreciate that-I do love Jack and the Pearl fics. Yours are some of the best I've read.

Yes, it was the title that drew me in. Too good a beginning, not to continue. Did you know that Apollodorus records a version of the classical tale, in which Agamemnon gets Mycenae by conquest and rape, killing Clytemnestra's legitimate spouse? At least the Pearl can have her chosen one again, after _her_ ten years of enduring.

A delightful extended metaphor...I've often felt that way about vehicles, certainly personality would extend to ships as well. The idea that the Pearl would "have it in for" Barbossa is luscious. She really is Jack's...I would've said willing bride, but courtesan works as well. And the title is a subtle touch, kudos.
