Never read Full Metal Alchemist (yet; getting around to it after Christmas), and yet this doesn't feel like a fanfic. It feels like an anime; not exactly like Shaman King, but anime. If you could draw, this would probably make a great webcomic.

This story is good so far. No plot, so it can't be a one-shot, but it's a good introduction for the story. The writing is not in anyway bad, so don't keep putting yourself down.
