Gryphalcon chapter 10 . 1/6/2011 Ohhh, so sweet! I will certainly visit The Dancing Dove, as I hope there are a few gems there as well. Have you stopped writing here? I did note the dates, so I understand you update infrequently (I'm sure that's miss-spelt). |
AFUS chapter 10 . 11/11/2009 Eh a bit gross and not really what i'd think of Gareth the Elder |
Verasque chapter 10 . 10/11/2009 This story was absolutely brilliant. From the craft of your writing style to the small nuances that brought all the main characters to light. Having Myles as older than Gareth has just moulded itself to my personal canon, and I can't express how much I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. It certainly makes sense that Duke G would have needed the academic, and political education in order to rise as Prime Minister - but it didn't quite hit personally until I came across your fic. Somehow, combining that with Gareth's attitude to life, and duty, just made it all that more distinct. I also liked how much time and focus you negotiated on the characters. The build up of his liaison with Alan, and the consequential falling out, just made it all so credible. There was a preciseness to the way you characterised each of the main characters - Gareth, Myles, Alan, Roald - and I'm so glad you finished this off and brought it to our attention on Goldenlake. All in all, this was just a wonderfully fulfilling and insightful story :) |
Quatre-sama chapter 10 . 10/11/2009 "You may be one of the most honestly chivalrous individuals I've ever met." - okay, THIS is pure awesome because it takes me immediately in my mind to the scene where Duke Gareth lectures Alanna on the Code of Chivalry and it all makes perfect sense to her. And I love that for the duke, it's a work in progress, to become so chivalrous. This piece is made of epic win, and I'm so very glad you completed it! |
Quatre-sama chapter 9 . 10/11/2009 Aww, that answers my question. Poor Gareth. I love that Myles now has a history of putting things together. ;) |
Quatre-sama chapter 8 . 10/11/2009 Ah! Ach! Ouch! I'm curious... for all of Alan's commenting about Roald, we never really get into Gareth's head to see if what he feels really IS stronger than close friendship. Are Alan's assumptions correct? Does Gareth even know? |
Quatre-sama chapter 7 . 10/11/2009 Omg, I lovelovelove the notion that Roald's peace negotiation ability coems from (in part) years of practice due to Gareth. It paints such a complete and pretty picture that I'm sure I'll love you forever! |
Quatre-sama chapter 6 . 10/11/2009 Ah, it felt like reading a kiss-up-against-the-wall-leading-to-so-much-more fic for the first time, it was so refreshing. XD I really love Alan's wicked sense of humor. |
Quatre-sama chapter 5 . 10/11/2009 "If you starve, I get in trouble," - Best. Line. Ever. It's so like Myles to be hyper-aware of every situation, even as a young knight. I like his Socratic method, and I love how his kindness breaks Gareth more than anything else. These relationships feel very real, and the writing is so good - it's like you're expertly guiding us to the right emotions about your story. Really superb, Chrissy. |
Quatre-sama chapter 4 . 10/11/2009 Aww, poor Gareth - I can completely relate to him, for I think we've all had frustrating assignments we didn't understand. (I love that I reviewed chapter three years ago, and just now reviewed chapters one and two - I'd forgotten so much!) The Alan/Gareth banter is divine, and I love that you've reinforced the notion of Roald as prince in the way Alan wants to make him proud - it seems stronger than general friendship, and it's quite pretty. |
Quatre-sama chapter 2 . 10/11/2009 Ahh... your "voice" for Myles is spot-on! I love this idea of him as a young knight. :) |
Quatre-sama chapter 1 . 10/11/2009 I like this set-up - Roald is much more commanding than we're given to believe in SotL, and I *love* that! I also adore the notion of Gareth as some kind of hellion who taunts people after thoroughly trouncing him. These are believable, evolvable counterparts to their grown selves, and it's obvious that you love them. :) |
Marius the Roman chapter 7 . 10/9/2009 Oh, wow. I got all teary at the end there. This story is REALLY, REALLY good! So good that I haven't actually been able to stop reading long enough to write a review until now. I promise to go back and review all the other wonderful chapters when I'm finished. I really like that smart- ss Gary Sr. Gary Jr. really is his fathers son. Keep up the wonderful work, Marius. |
Nelarun chapter 3 . 11/18/2005 lol. This is GREAT! Poor Myles, never mind about Gareth : actually I rather feel sorry for Gareth too : Cant wait for the new chappie Can you please put a bit more Roald in it? Nelarun of Australia |
Robinwyn chapter 3 . 1/7/2005 Wow... sorry its been a while...I've been very busy. Can't wait for more. I love that you are writing about characters we only know as adults. While I know that you probably have plans for this story already, it might be helpful, towards the end or something, to have the characters change to what they are today (Alan being only interested in books, etc). Kids change a lot in the growing-up process so it would be interesting to see how they get the way they are. Other than that, when you update, I will definitely try hard to find time to read more. |
