Reviews for Misfits
An Angry Re-Read chapter 26 . 2/3/2016
I remember that I was extremely fond of this fanfic when I was younger, and it had been on my mind for a while. I re-read it recently (not as I write this review), and my view of it has changed.
It's now one of my most despised fics. I wish it wasn't. Your writing is fantastic and I do like Sara, but there are a few things that irked me to the point of my utter contempt towards this story.
Sara does feel like a real person, but there are just some instances where she just feels like a Mary Sue. I do believe that people can have hidden talents, but I feel like she has too many. Good at the harp? Cool. Animating web cartoons? Okay, great. Somehow getting money from bank accounts. In high school. Um, what? Yes, I do realize that X-Men is about mutants. The laws of reality are in the air, but you don't see other high-schoolers extorting money from bank accounts, so why should Sara be a special case? Second, people fawning over what she can do in a manner that feels like wish-fulfillment. Yes, people can praise and love the fuck out of others. But once that becomes unrealistic pandering, it's different. The most glaring example of this is when Sara reduces LOGAN, of all people, to some fanboy-esque thoughts over a motorcycle. I do understand that Logan loves his bikes, but since Sara was brought into the equation, it made it feel like nothing but wish-fulfillment. It also feels that way when Sara somehow bests all of the people who are against her. You know, sometimes, people don't win in that arena. Sure, maybe she used her newfound confidence to suddenly get snarky, but it just feels like it's the equivalent of getting back at an old school bully after thinking of the perfect response years later. "Always the automatic response of the slow of mind." Oh, fuck you.
Also, what's with the unnecessary Jean-bashing? Did we watch the same show? Or did we watch with different body parts? Something I call "watching with your ass".
Jean knows the gravity of her powers, and she would never, ever be lax with her training, nor would she be so snarky to the Professor. Because she's, you know, grateful that he's shown her how to use her powers. There's some cloud of stupid in the Evo fandom where idiots make her out to be a domineering bully, when she's a kind person that cares for others and would do anything for them. I think I know what this boils down to again: wish fulfillment. It feels like anger directed towards the popular girls that everyone seems to know from their high school days. Is Sara getting the better of Jean a display of this? Knowing fanfiction, most likely. It's so distracting when almost everyone else is so in character, but then have one of the popular girls show up and she's suddenly the laziest, worst person in the world. I doubt that she became the school's ace and top student by cutting corners and whining about everything handed to her. Are people who are good at school under pressure? Yeah, she could use a break sometimes. But you can fucking bet that Jean wouldn't be a fucking brat about it.
Fuck. Off.
Aracertariel chapter 26 . 12/26/2011
Spent the better part of the day rereading this. Its still just as awesome as the last time I read through it. I thought there was more, but that must have been out on your site, which seems to be not working on my computer today.

Anyway, I'd love to see this completed. You've got solid characters and well-established voices. And I love the inter-personal relationships between Sara and the X-Men and the Brotherhood.
kaiiju chapter 26 . 10/16/2011
*hums to herself* This is honestly the best OC romance story that I have ever read. Ever. I found this incharaxter, amusing, and very well written. Also, her character is so real I swear I am going to have dreams bout her. Thanks for the great read!
SaintTuesday chapter 26 . 8/14/2011
Dear lord how has this thing not got more reviews? This has to be one of the sweetest, funniest stories in this 'verse that don't include the standard 'syrup couples' that many writers are so fond of. I personally, love it, and I normally dislike OC's. But yours manage to be completely normal, not overly compensating or an adverse personality, and totally believable for it. It astonishes me how short the Xmen E cast are actually, I had no idea I was almost a head taller than Logan, he's one of the characters you just always imagine as towering over you. However I think this adds a subtle element of realism to a world so very different to our own. Your writing style is engaging, witty, and as true-to-life as a cartoon can be. I salute you.

Good morning star-shine, the earth says hello.
Padfoot's Shadow chapter 5 . 10/16/2009
I love your story. This is the third time I've read it and it's still wonderful. Sara is perfect, she isn't a Mary Sue and her personality is awesome. Great story.
Fuyu Kurenai Sanshoku chapter 26 . 12/14/2007

Born-Of-Elven-Blood chapter 26 . 2/24/2007
ah, last chapter posted, but somehow I get the feeling there's more to this story! *scampers off to root around for more story*

I am pleasently surprised-this is the first x-men fic I've ever read-shkspr1048 sort of beat me into submission and forced me to read it, but I'm glad he did, its really very entertaining! (don't let HIM know he was right, of course, he'd get a big head and then I'd have to go to the trouble of pounding it down all over again P )

thanks for posting it here, hopefully I'll be able to catch more of it on your message board ttfn!
Born-Of-Elven-Blood chapter 24 . 2/24/2007
Well, a lady never corrects gramatical errors, but no one's ever accused me of being a lady; while 'pequña muchacha pobre' is probably technically correct (the result that babel fish spits out, for instance), its more correct to say 'pobrecita', which means the exact same thing, but in one word instead of three, and its what native spanish speakers would say, just for future reference.

Never trust online translators-they don't pick up on connotations or colloquialisms (sp?) or intentionally messed up grammar (like in sayings like '?que te pasa, calabaza?', it gives you 'that it happens to you, pumpkin?' instead of 'what's up, pumpkin'-by the way, the proper response to which is 'nada nada limonada', which makes it something like 'see you later, alligator-after while, crocodile', except for its a greeting and its delightfully spanish-oh dear, i AM ranting)

Anywho, good stuff, I'm still reading this chapter, but, since I'm a horrible horrible person with an extended family littered all over central america, I had to put in my two cents hate me or love me, I'll bug you enough that you'll certainly remember me, even if only as that twitchy pain behind your left eye-i'm ranting again-its 5:30 in the morning is why, and therefore you should take it as a compliment, since I've been reading this since like 6pm yesterday...lol, i'm a very slow reader apparently...

I'm so sorry. I'm done talking now. Back to reading, its really good so far!
Born-Of-Elven-Blood chapter 20 . 2/24/2007
*eyes bug*

I would say 'stranger than fiction', but "stranger than reality" is the only applicable phrase here-if this were reality, Todd would have been half way across the county at the mere mention of menstration, much less putting his hand in it!

Why can't real men be that attentive? *whines* lol, this is great, can't wait to read more!
Born-Of-Elven-Blood chapter 16 . 2/24/2007
lol, god, I'm laughing way too hard! I nearly spit dr. pepper all over my computer screen!

why do i get the feeling that sara is just a little schizophrnenic? meh, that's okay, sanity is boring

i'm really enjoying this story so far! thanks for posting it! I can't wait to read more!
Anonymous chapter 26 . 12/28/2006
Nutter, this is a fic I would be proud of - really enjoyable to read, with endearing and totally believable characters. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! Please update, I can't open this story's twin on your homepage for some reason (gr).
Oraman Asturi chapter 26 . 11/27/2006
Nice when are you going to update.
StarDust002 chapter 26 . 11/19/2005
Highly enjoyable, from beginning to "almost-end". You have a unique style about your writing (although some spacing is helpful), and it shows! Not your typical-new-mutant story, and extremely delicious from chapter 1-26. And hopefully more to come..?

I'll be lurking...
Lynxie chapter 26 . 7/23/2005
Wow... Just Wow!

I'm really liking this story, but I'm too lazy to review each of the chapters, so consider this praise for ch. 1-34 All of them were magnificently written, I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen! (now I'm going to regret the eyestrain though)

I understand Sara's need for superspeed reading, although it has more to do with competition on the new books than duty calls for me. Heh, if there was money in our family we'd have an mini library devoted sci-fi and fantsy. Ah, err. Damnit, I gotta read more of your writing. May I suggest trying to publish some of your writted works? I don't even think Herbert's the Dosodai Experiment filled my head with this much inspiration, or did as well protraying the human(and muntant)condition under great pressure, and that's what most of the book was about.

Bravo!
