Nice story

You're using "lost destiny" wrong, or at least Methos is using it very ambiguously. The way he describes it, the sword prevented its bearer's destiny from happening thus causing him to lose it. When what really happened is the sword regained its bearer's destiny that was lost.

The Sword of Lost Hope is what gives you hope when all hope is lost, all hope has been lost for a very long time. It comes in many guises, a space battleship after your world has been incinerated. A recovered martian raygun after the martians have conquered and enslaved the human race. It always provides hope and always has the power to kill great evil. Its name in modern days is close to 'infinite perseverance'.

The Sword of Lost Light is what gives you light when everything of any value whatsoever is destroyed. It comes in many guises. A United Federation of Planets Starfleet relief force after your world has been manipulated into incinerating itself in nuclear fire by aliens. I haven't seen any other instances because it's pretty hard to pull off undoing a total apocalypse. The Sword of Lost Light can't just be replicator technology, it has to be something with the power to kill great evil.

The Well of Lost Dreams is the source you go to in order to recover the dreams you've sacrificed to great evil. Usually evil so great and prevalent you dare not think of it as evil. It can come in the form of a person who causes you to rethink the world and yourself. Its modern name is close to infinite inspiration. It has no potential for violence whatsoever, if it did it would be known as the Forge of Lost Dreams, an entirely different thing.

So the Sword of Lost Destiny must regain a destiny that would and should be lost to great evil. And in your story, that's the opposite meaning of the one Methos insinuates at the end.

Good story though, you managed to name something humanity had never named before.

A delightful short piece. And Mac missing a true story from Methos was a perfect ending. :-)

I'm not quite sure whether this was a happy ending or a sad ending. He lived a good life but he never became an Immortal. I suppose I only feel sad for us that we don't get to learn what his story MIGHT have been.

Reminds me of a story.

-Three men were in heaven and having a debate about who the greatest general in history was. The Greek man insisted that Alexander the Great was the greatest. The Frenchman insisted it was Napoleon. The American said it was Patton. They decided that they needed an outsider to settle the argument and so they went to St. Peter and asked him. "Peter, who was the greatest general to ever live?"

Peter looked around for a moment and then spotted the man they were after. He pointed.

The Greek and the Frenchman were curious who the man was but the American was just plain angry. "Peter. You must have made a mistake. I knew that man in life. He was nothing but a simple farmer."

Peter just smiled at him calmly. "True. But if he had been a general, he would have been the greatest."-

That was impressive story telling - the divergence of destiny, maybe. With Methos, it is so hard to tell what is real, what is intended to mislead, what dreams he weaves or believes. He has under his belt the surefire methods of misdirection by never really admitting anything, never truly identifying anyone, never naming names and making things real and solid. All is ephemeral and like water running through your fingers. Aggravating man!

Great story. I love the philosophical atmosphere and the little joke in the end. Because yeah - I can totally understand Mac's frustration with missing out on a true story.

I love this story. I'm glad that the pre-immortal had a happy ending, though I'm not sure whether the magician could really sense the specifics of the boy's destiny or if he just guessed from the pre-immortal status. I guess it's up to the reader whether Methos is simply an Immortal or if he's an Immortal magician.

Sometimes I think my favorite Methos stories are those that let me fill in my own blanks. It is so very, very like the old man. :)

Another very well written story, I enjoyed this one very much too. The subject matter was very easy for me to see and I really liked the way you played it all out.

It is so nice for Methos to have a happy, goof off day with friends. 'Course, Methos would kill any of his "friends" if the reason was good enough. He lies to everyone but himself; I wonder if it is another bitterness that he cannot lie to himself. He plays everyone without thinking(double entendre meant). It's how he's lived so long. That and selectively repressed memories that CAN pop up if his life is in danger. He's a Data, with access to all he had done but with Pinocchio's young spirit and viewpoint to guard him and numb him. Plus a big instinct to RUN when needed.I can think about him without getting bored. I adore gorgeous Duncan but he is too predictable . I think in cliiches.I can think of scenes but I can't plot for anythng. This started out as another thank you for a nice Methos story. DANKE.

this is a very well told story. it is just like Methos, to give us something juicy and walk away w/o the ending. btw i was wondering if u could read my fic? (hehe shameless plugs can be very amusing especially when acompanied by a bribe *hands u a watcher log and ur pick of immortals*)
