BbK2442 chapter 1 . 3/10/2018 I'm not sure I understand exactly how the SGC has gone rogue. They're obeying the lawful orders of the President and Joint Chiefs and presumably have to make regular reports to them, so how are they rogue? |
Qi Eclipse chapter 1 . 9/30/2015 I get the feeling that if/when the news about the SGC comes out and if/when everyone gets in trouble for it being kept secret. Micheal is going to claim that Daniel has been on the payroll for however long and they just didn't send the money becouse that would be suspisous so of course he works for the firm and what do you mean he's in trouble, he was just doing his job. |
BiblioMatsuri chapter 1 . 6/22/2012 Hello, plot hole. I didn't really watch enough of the show to obsess about it and pick out said plot holes. Very good point. |
Morena Evensong chapter 1 . 1/5/2012 I love nothing more than a fanfic that makes me think about my favourite shows from an entirely different perspective. I mean, I may end up disagreeing with said perspective, but I love being made to think about things. Although, in this case, I totally agree with what you/Janet are saying. It also makes me wonder whether this is precisely why everyone involved with the program is going to such lengths to make sure it remains a secret, because as soon as it goes public, they're all toast. Beginning with Hammond and O'Neill, because they're the best scape-goats even if everything they're doing is under orders and pretty much their only alternative is to resign and that would potentially allow dangerous elements into the SGC... Anyway, I've spent the past few days slowly making my way through your SG-1/Godzilla/Airwolf/and now Ruroni Kenshin (of all the strangest series to use and then integrate perfectly) series. I was going to review when I was done the whole thing in then end, but this little ficlet just couldn't be left without a response. I do absolutely love this series! |
Mystikwriter chapter 1 . 5/2/2010 I've always had a soft spot for Janet. Its hard not to love a woman that can make Jack run screaming for the hills with nothing more than a smile... |
Puidwen chapter 1 . 10/17/2009 like the fic, but can't agree. The gou'ald attacked and kidnaped a person, then the rescue mission revealed their race as a clear and pressent danger, so while questionable i don't think it is as questionable as you think it is. |
Ladyhawke 620 - airwolf addict chapter 1 . 3/19/2009 Thoughts worth contemplating... Nice sidebar story. |
smithcrafter chapter 1 . 6/9/2007 Ouch! |
Cassandra30 chapter 1 . 6/3/2007 I had never thought about it that way! Not at all! Way cool! |
SithelfJen chapter 1 . 3/16/2007 I found this story a very interesting to read and the views are thought provoking to say the least. Hope you write more in this universe. |
Banner chapter 1 . 10/27/2006 I've lost track of how many times I've read this story, and it always gives me the shivers... |
MarbleGlove chapter 1 . 7/19/2006 I've been going through a bunch of your stories and they are all absolutely wonderful. The relationships surrounding Daniel and Archangel and Kenshin are all written well and interestingly and I love reading each addition you have to it. But I particularly wanted to comment on this story because it brings up a really good point. The SGC is rogue and they have decided that they are in the right and that checks and balances would only needlessly hinder their vital tasks. I imagine every single rogue operation has beleived that of themselves. Just because they beleive they are in the right does not mean that they are right or that their methods are always acceptable. Thank you for pointing all of this out. And keep up the wonderful writing. Incidentally, do you know that you have your personal preferences set to not allow for anonymous reviews? |
Darklady chapter 1 . 6/19/2006 Actually, the SGC is completely legal. There is a Congressional oversight comittee ( aka Kinsey & company) which has authorized the Presidential action. Plus in the show we are twice shown review briefings - once of Kinsey et all and once of an incoming president. Neighter the SGA, nor Area 52, nor the Beta site, nor the Prometheus Project is in any way 'rogue'. The details may be highly classified, and the funding is 'black', but the operation itself is completely legit. In terms of management, the SGC is similar ( and most likely based on ) the structure of Edwards AFB or China Lake NWTS. |
John chapter 1 . 3/22/2005 Slippery slope of once you break an oath it gets easier as you go on. Law of Unintended consequences. SG-1 did not INTEND to start a war, but that is what happened. However, it could also be argued that the Gouald, by kidnapping/enslaving in the past, had already affected earth and started the war. SG-1 just RE-started it. As regards telling the world what is going on- now that would make for some wild times. And in the end- would it really help? |
Andrew Joshua Talon chapter 1 . 2/1/2005 Wow... Better hope Kinsey doesn't find this... However, a very thought-provoking piece, which made me question some of the things I've before assumed without question. However, though the SGC is on legally shaky ground if taken like this, we must consider certain events in US history. Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq-Were all fought without formal declarations of war. Commitments to defend the US from communism, defend our allies, and defend ourselves from terrorism were made by the President and Congress. The President did not authorize any combat without the approval of Congress first. Every time President Bush wished to commit forces anywhere he need Congress's permission to do it first. Ergo, we could construe the war with the Gou'ald as such a conflict-Authorized by Congress by it's approval of funding for the SGC and under direct oversight from civilian authorities. With the Replicators as well, any military action the SGC takes is in defense of allies (the Asgard). In court hearings, I believe this argument, in addition to the obvious threat by the Gou'ald (especially in light of Anubis's assault on Earth) would justify the conflict against the Gou'ald, and many of the SGC's actions in this conflict. THe Gou'ald, provided Earth finally defeats them, could potentially raise court hearings against the SGC and it's personnel for war crimes. The Asgard would probably be a good choice as arbiters, as no one on Earth would be unbiased enough to preside over such hearings. However, the problem of a formal declaration of war in this case is that 1) The Gou'ald do not subscribe to any laws or treaties that were made on Earth, aside from the Asgard Protected Planets Treaty (which, BTW, they broke), 2) The Gou'ald are not exactly a legally-recognized government, being theocratic dictatorships that their citizens had no say in (rather like Iran), and 3) The Gou'ald do not really respond to anything other than sheer force/power, and many really believe themselves to be actual gods. Just a different viewpoint... |
