However, a tiny thing. To me a petticoat is a form of slip that only covers the bottom half - this might just be my preconception of what a petticoat is. But I couldn't stop picturing Lothíriel riding back to Edoras completely topless, I've always imagined that women of Rohan wore simple shifts - undergowns beneath all their dresses, which would often show through at parts of the overgown that were cut away to reveal the undergown, such as the sleeves, depending on the style. Perhaps using a different term would clarify things, unless the topless Lothíriel is what you intended.
