Higuchimon chapter 1 . 12/25/2014
Oh, man, I honestly can't believe I hadn't reviewed this yet. It's hilarious on every possible level and I loved reading it. Every word rang just true to both of them. And I noticed something. If the cards are in Ryo's pocket and Ruki was sewing up his pants, then she could've taken them any time she wanted. But she didn't. She waited to be given to them. Very honorable of her. :) Overall, hilarious and I loved it. Again. :)

Arek the Absolute chapter 1 . 5/27/2008
This is probably the best one-shot I've had the pleasure of reading, so I think it's only fair that I tell you what brought me to that conclusion.

To begin with, we have the characters. Even though they don't belong to you, you are exceptional at bringing them through in your writing. I think one of my favorite parts is when Ruki is weaving around the crowd because that just so perfectly captures her attitude.

I'm not sure there's a line in this whole piece that doesn't in some way reveal character. Even when it's a matter as simple as thoughts on clothes, Ruki and Ryo display very different attitudes that accurately reflect the differences in their personalities. When the issue is where their digimon are, Ryo's concern for the health of both the public and his partner and Ruki's independent spirit come through loud and clear.

As important as their individual personalities are, the strength of this story undoubtedly comes from the way these characters interact with one another. If anything, Ryo and Ruki become even more like themselves when they're around one another. Ryo becomes even more animated, taking an embarassing situation and still cracking enough wise to make Ruki seem like the embarassed one. It also comes to light here that this is not, as some might suspect, an indication of Ryo's free-spirited outlook, but rather it seems to be entirely for Ruki's benefit, as while he's a bit bashful out in public, he's happy to strut around her house in his boxers all day long. Ruki is also invigorated by this interaction, because while she does put on a cold front, she is also responding to him. If she were really as cold as she wants people to think, she would have left him sitting there on the bench rather than inviting him over to her place and sewing his pants back together. Probably the best way to describe her attitude would be to say that she is being coy, which is one of those words I don't get to use often enough.

Not only do you demonstrate a superb awareness of the characters and how they interact here, but you convey that understanding to your readers in a meaningful way. That ability to communicate your thoughts is one of the things that makes me regard this as the best one-shot I've read here. The second thing is, as I've been going on about all this time, the characters. They really are the most important aspect of fiction, so if you can write them this well, you can write almost anything. Being able to accomplish all of this inside such a short space is no less than astounding. Excellent writing.
Wicked42 chapter 1 . 4/15/2008
