Iggy - Essence of Angst chapter 1 . 6/26/2006
From simply reading the summary, I didn't think much of this fic at first. But I took a chance, and from my desperation of finding lack of more decently written Kasumi/Ayane-central fics, I went for it.

[Hayate winced when he noticed that no tea had been placed before her - a deliberate snub. If she had been served, it might have been taken to indicate that her presence was welcome ... ]

That deliberate line was when I knew things were going to end up bad.

["You must understand, Ayane. I do not hate you, yet I cannot love you. When I see you, I am reminded of how you were conceived. It would have been better had you not come."]

Ouch. Such hurtful words...

When I was first reading this, by the time I got to this part, I was literally on the edge of my seat, in anticipation of where the conversation between "Mother and daughter" would end up.

The words you used to describe the atmosphere, the unspoken hurt and regret, and the way the characters reacted to each other drew me completely into the story. I literally felt Ayane's pain when her mother said, "No. I do not."

That is how powerful your fic comes across as.

Although I do think that Ayane might have showed a bit more sadness or anger regarding her mother's final wishes, perhaps it has been so long since she was first isolated from the rest of the clan as a "true" family member that anger and sadness simply don't affect her anymore. She can absorb it, because it no longer means anything of importance to her. She is beyond help and forgiveness, and in turn, this has permanently affected her ability to feel emotion.

["You can both shut up. I know when I'm not welcome." She turned to look back at their mother's house. For an instant, something could be seen in her eyes. Regret perhaps, longing, anguish ... farewell.]

Was Ayane really exiled from the clan just as Kasumi was after the event of Genra's death?

["My thanks for exiling me!" she called. "I now have an excuse to stay as far away from here as possible!" With a mocking bow, she was gone into the gathering dusk.]

:softly: Such bitterness from such a wounded, angry soul.

Powerful, emotional and thought-provoking story. The quality far beats quantity in this piece, and it is one of those truly rare works, told in a short fashion, but exceeding those that are told over a numerous amount of chapters with little detail.

Wonderful read.

Very good. You captured the emotions extremely well.
NinjaCowboy chapter 1 . 8/10/2004
AAW! That was beautiful m452shakespeare! Extremely well written! You almost had me crying in the end! (An amazing feat that can only be accomplished by Ayanes sadness) Because She's my Fav.!

Yea I know who you are and I've been here a while typing my own fanfics and reading and reviewing others. So Darkness of Hajinmon is somewhat of a sequel to this. I must admit that you have a very unique way of writing that I don't see very often around here. Keep up the good work! And update DoH soon!
Nashi-chan chapter 1 . 7/1/2004
At first glance I thought it would be all lovey talk between a mother and her children. The warm, happy thoughts in the beginning gave me the same idea.

But when Ayane was mentioned everything got cold... ( I wanted to slap Ayame good and hard...) Rape is a hard thing to deal with though... So I'll let her slide... This time...

In the end, I really enjoyed reading this... Nicely done.
Unforgiven Wolf chapter 1 . 7/1/2004
interesting story of Ayame wanting ayane off and the exiling bit... well thats rather interesting as well.

no argument on what happens becuase anything could be because rape is a rather... sinister subject to talk about and having a child born of this adds to the whole thing.

Kurmoi chapter 1 . 7/1/2004
Argh! Poor Ayane! I didn't think Ayame would be so hostile, but you give good evidence for her to be like that. And you mentioned Ryu! Yay! Ten points for that.

Back to the actual story... very beautiful one-shot. You really make the reader feel for Ayane! Empathy is good. Fantastic work.
