In my opinion, it's difficult to execute a fanfiction in this vein. More often than not it comes off as pretentious and gimmicky rather than deep and thoughtful. Fortunately, though, you seem to have struck a fair balance between prosaic, calculated narrative and emotion, which makes this a very pleasant - and ungimmicky - read. A little short, naturally, but I'm sure you knew that. P Everything in Count D's life seems to come to a perfect contrast, except for the cold/warm part, which seems out of place. Even then, a commendable piece.
