Ellen chapter 65 . 3/23/2011 This is a pretty good insight into Norrington's head. However, I always really, really hated that part of the movie. Not only because it made dear Norry look like an idiot, but because it was literally, physically impossible. First point; a ship the size of the Dauntless or even the Interceptor was crewed by hundreds of sailors, and while it wouldn't take all of them to get her moving, two guys, however talented, wouldn't have a prayer of setting sail. They just don't have enough hands. Even an itty bitty little supply ship took more than half a dozen men set sail. And Will was a novice. So, what, did Jack carry around a pocket full of freeze-dried, compressed sailors to haul the lines, just add water? Jack's only magical gadget that we know of is the compass, which is entirely unhelpful when you're trying to produce a crew from thin air. Second, those hundreds of men who crewed those ships *slept* *on* *board*. They didn't let them off, ever, to avoid mass desertion. Navy sailors didn't do shore leave. The women came to them-every time the navy put into port, fifty or so of the sailors would miraculously acquire wives, who would sleep on the lower deck. The place and time of these marriages were never enquired into. If Jack and Will were to waltz on board the Dauntless, bold as brass, they would have walked into a rattlesnake den. Third, a boarding party does *not* consist of a ship's entire crew! Fifty or so maybe, probably less, but that would have been less than half of the ship's crew. If Jack and Will ran across to the Interceptor, it would have been directly into the welcoming arms of the Britain's finest. Fourth, Jack would have been well aware of the last three points, and would never have attempted it, because he is not stupid. He would have picked an easier target. Like a civilian boat. Less prestige, but actually plausible. To the writers of CotBP, I recommend Horatio Hornblower, God bless him. If even a grade-A landlubber like myself knows this, the writers should have no excuse. And rule-of-cool doesn't cut it in this case. Um... anyway, these are pretty interesting drabbles, and you seem to have a handle on the characters. |
Jennifer Lynn Weston chapter 139 . 8/1/2010 I'll bet Jack'll listen to her next time. |
TriGemini chapter 139 . 8/1/2010 This was interesting to read. It sounds like Jack should've listened to her warnings from the very start. Seeing as how, she seemed to be right about everything that was going to happen to Jack, once he found that treasure. Enjoyed this one. |
damsel-in-stress chapter 138 . 7/30/2010 Wow. That was intense. And in so few words. Some amazing lines: "Jack's heart bled the same colour she'd once been, that rich, shining red, her gingerbread trim picked out in gold leaf." There is a lot of emotion in this short piece. Expertly handled! ~Damsel |
damsel-in-stress chapter 137 . 7/30/2010 It's true, and we do often forget it, but Jack is probably the most trustworthy person in the entire series. Shockingly, he honestly (or rather dishonestly) never gives people cause to not trust him. I wish people wouldn't be so mean to poor Norrington though. :( Great to see more of these drabbles! ~Damsel |
TriGemini chapter 138 . 7/29/2010 This was very intense to read. Especially, since it seemed very emotional on Jack's part. |
Jennifer Lynn Weston chapter 138 . 7/29/2010 Great little summary! Also a foreshadowing of Pirates 4, if the rumors are accurate. |
TriGemini chapter 137 . 7/24/2010 Great one to read. It's understandable that Jack would think that it would be best for Elizabeth to stay near him; seeing as how, in a way she should be able to trust him to not do something to her. Plus, in the state that Norrington was in; it's understandable that Jack wouldn't trust him. Yet, I don't believe that Norrington would hurt Elizabeth, in any way. Looking forward to more. Until then. |
TriGemini chapter 136 . 4/21/2009 Good chapter! It sounds like Elizabeth is surprised at what Will was willing to risk-at standing in-between Jack and Norrington. Yet apart of Will had changed after his adventure in rescuing Elizabeth. But it also gave both Will and Elizabeth, a new beginning, as well. As usual, looking forward to more. Until then. |
damsel-in-stress chapter 135 . 3/26/2009 Awesome! I love the little plot running through all this. It was wonderful to see a couple of updates and I can't wait for more. :) ~Damsel |
TriGemini chapter 135 . 3/25/2009 Another excellent chapter! It sounds like Jack has gotten himself a good deal, by getting a Letter of Marque from Norrington. Seeing as how, it means a free pass for Jack and his crew to come and go whenever it pleases them-whenever the Black Pearl sails into Port Royal. Plus, it's also an excuse for Jack to vist Elizabeth and Will; whenever he can and wants too. Can't wait until the next drabble-until then. |
TriGemini chapter 134 . 3/25/2009 Excellent Sounds like the Black Pearl can survive whatever comes its way. And that it's the best ship that's ever sailed the seven seas and captained by Captain Jack Sparrow. |
Jennifer Lynn Weston chapter 135 . 3/25/2009 Apt prompt- there's no more prominent letter in the POTCverse than the Letter of Marque. |
damsel-in-stress chapter 20 . 1/16/2009 You've really wrenched at my heart strings in that. I am a mad Norrington fangirl and that captured him so perfectly. "The longing for freedom was not confined to pirates." - That line said so much! Horrible. ~Damsel |
damsel-in-stress chapter 18 . 1/16/2009 Jack is a good man. Wonderful way to prove that in this little chapter. *sniff* |
