This really stood out. I liked how incorporated Malcolm into the whole story without letting on that he was already dead. The scene where he finally realised that it was he himself who had died was especially poignant. Nicely written, with an excellent twist at the end there. :)

oh, and a mary-sue is a oc that an author throws in a story that ends up with whatever character the author likes. usually they're too perfect.

Sorry! I just dropped that Mary-Sue thing in outta nowhere! Em, a MarySue is an original, usually female, character who is there solely to be perfect/ save characters who are perfectly capable of saving themselves/ subvert canon. I was vaguely out of it last night. Tiredness and exam anxiety took precendence over writing legibly and I get twitchy whenever I see original female characters. The Guns'n'Roses Sue scarred me. Ah, yes, the story. Good fic, highly depressing. For some reason, the twist could kind of wreck it. I would like to see Reed(or any other character) have to deal with a death that they caused especially in the atmosphere of bloodlust of the aftermath of the Xindi attack. Have you abandoned Little Cotton Socks? Memory may be playing tricks but can't remember an update for a while.

Not bad, the disconnect works in this case. Dying does tend to come as a shock. Actually, the whole supernatural (dead, not dead) is a favourite theme of mine. Why would someone hang around? You're right with this, sometimes it's just to make sure everything's okay.
It'd be interesting if he followed up on that 'see ya.' I've got one of those people in my two dramas, they're fun to work with, (even if just for comic relief).
