Reviews for A Quiet Game
barkerman chapter 1 . 12/28/2016
Cute story. Good use of humor. Personalities were pretty accurately portrayed, though a few short phrases I would have worded differently. Enjoyable story. I'm sure some people will love the precision and play-by-play of the chess game, but I found myself mostly skimming those portions. Kaylee, as in the show, made me smile. She was perfect. I would definitely read more from this author. Thanks for posting.

Nice one shot...I do think Wash would be the best one to help Simon...he also does a great job with River. great attention paid to an underestimated and somewhat ignored character

Good enough it make me smile, and check your page for other stories you wrote!
Thanks.
Separate Entity chapter 1 . 4/24/2015
This story is the best kind of quirky. I like how you kept everyone in character.

Simon and Wash are my new favorite bromance. 3

Ani Mei chapter 1 . 7/14/2012
Aww...the ending is so cute and the scene with River is so funny. I love this, it sticks to the original characters and it's something I can see happening on the show. I love that it ties all the characters together and it's great! Off to see what else you have.

Great story! Love this phrase: "...she smiled at him in that manner that always made him feel like his knees had been disassembled."

You did wonderfully with Wash, just perfect. And the bit with River made me giggle. Wash is so weird! Makes him awesome.
GusGus Gamgee chapter 1 . 12/31/2010
sooo, this piece is really good. i read it a few months ago, and just reread it and it absolutely made me laugh. and smile. a lot.

you got all the characters down perfectly, and still managed to give them a little extra.

really, really well done. keep it up!
Ella Greggs chapter 1 . 6/13/2010
Really liked the character insights in this story, Wash trying to give Simon romantic advice, as well as a bit of advice on how to handle River without driving himself crazy. The progression of the chess game was a neat background/structure for the story. Loved the ending, with Wash mouthing to Simon the words Simon should say to Kaylee. But you also had a serious moment there when Wash mentions Jayne's crush on Kaylee and Simon suddenly sees Jayne's betrayal on Ariel in a different light. Well done for adding just a touch of seriousness. Favorite simile was probably: "jumped like a cat force fed espresso."
Thescarredman chapter 1 . 5/26/2010
Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus. You've done a lot in 3k words and a simple setting: character studies of almost the entire crew, and the Simon-Wash relationship was a treat. Neither of thse characters got the development they deserved in the series, the share of screen time they deserved in the movie, or the authors' attention they merit on this site.
CalliopeMused chapter 1 . 1/25/2010
I love the full chess game in the background. It's one thing to talk about the game, and another to be able to track all of the moves. Simon and Wash's interaction all felt completely true to the show, especially with River and Kaylee's add-ins. Great story!
Crazed Fuzzle chapter 1 . 8/19/2009
Thoroughly enjoyable! I really like your characterizations. In particular, Wash's comments about Zoe rang true (not to mention being amusing). I also loved the French Revolution reenactment at the beginning. On a different note, the relationship between Wash and Simon is an interesting one, and your take on their friendship is refreshing; Simon is so out of place on Serenity that Wash is probably the only person he can talk to like this, and it's a shame so few people recognize that.
xenokattz chapter 1 . 1/6/2009
I literally LOLed at the part where River listed all the side-dishes that would taste good with her! :D

Thanks so much for writing this!
