mastersam chapter 14 . 10/18/2009 Having read all the way through your story, I must admit that it's pretty enjoyable. I like the many references that you make to the game that not many people would remember unless they were blatantly reminded, like the things that the Poyozo doll said in Enhasa, or Lorraine herself, and how you've managed to turn her into an entire villain. A small complaint, however. It may be that you type fast, but occasionally, there's a few errors in your writing, like spelling and punctuation. It doesn't ruin the experience, but I find it mildly irritating. I may seem a little picky with that, so don't give it too much attention if you don't want to, but it's just something that I figured you might look at. Otherwise, I feel like your story has come along nicely, if at a spastic pace, and it would be great to see it continue, especially considering that I'd love to see what exactly Magus is summoning. |
Kasienda chapter 13 . 12/20/2007 It may be hard to get lots of reviews in the Chrono Trigger section these days just 'cause its so old! But I suppose there are a few die hards (like me!) still left. Anyway, I really like your interpretation of Crono. How he is deeply uncertain and he keeps trying to figure out his purpose and whether that purpose is of his own choosing. Adds a lot of dimension. In the game he has no flaws (no good traits either) just because he was not developed. You've pretty much informed the reader that he and Marle are married though you've never come out and said it. Because I played the game I it wasn't hard to follow but as far as the story itself is concerned it isn't very clear. The other thing is they don't really act like they're married - more like just really good companionable friends. I find myself wondering if you are setting Lucca up to be the next Guru of Time? It just seemed to fit in your story because Gaspar explained to her sort of what happened with Lorraine and a little about the past. Also the other gurus left presumably because this is Gaspar's fight. If he's bringing Lucca along it sort of implies some kind of special tie to her with Gaspar. You don't have to answer this question - I suppose I'd rather you not give anything away. Just thinking out loud. Your transitions could use a little work. Sometimes I don't realize a character has left a scene or that we are in another's perspective. And then I have to go back and check to figure out when that happened. And sometimes you change perspective in the middle of a scene with nothing to signify that it has changed. This hasn't been as much of a problem in the last few chapters so maybe you've already fixed that. I'm definitely intrigued with and hooked to the story, but sometimes it can be a little frustrating to read only because you present us with problems and questions but there seems to be little to no progression in solving or answering them. Overall very well done. That's what I love about the Chrono Trigger stories - most of the people here are older because the game is older (I mean they are not ten or twelve) and so have more ability to write so the stories. You have done a fabulous job so far and I hope you continue to update. Don't worry about how long it takes. It takes as long as it takes! Best of luck and happy writing! |
Lyless and Lockesilver chapter 12 . 4/14/2006 I really love this story and id really appreaciate more glenn i've always liked him twice as much as crono and marle put togather ( not trying to offend ) please continue. |
RPLG chapter 12 . 3/4/2006 I like the depth that you put into the character's thoughts and reactions. They actually think about the consequences of what they have done/ are doing. Interesting on what you did with making a villian based on a NPC in CT. I do like Lorraine. Her lines are not cliched and she doesn't feel the need to scream her head off like the typical sadist; her subtleness makes her all the better (and even more sadistic). |
Legion chapter 12 . 2/1/2006 Well I'm kindof surprised that after all my time of combing through the CT section I would just stumble upon your story now. And I must say that so far I'm impressed on what you have done in taking the CT world and showing it in this new light that Lorraine is trying to make. Your take on Crono is a different one as well but I could understand the hero's plight; I look forward to seeing the rest! |
RPLG chapter 3 . 1/27/2006 I have only read through chapter 3, but I like what I am seeing so far. The scenes could use a little more descriptive imagery, though. Definitely plan to continue reading and reviewing |
Preventer Squall chapter 10 . 9/16/2004 I can see a clash between Magus and Lorraine happening in the near future. Or would it be in the past? *shakes head* Attempts to comprehend the theory intermeshing temporal realities make my head hurt. Anyway, I like how you've linked this all to gether so far. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next. |
Locuster chapter 10 . 9/12/2004 I very much enjoyed reading this piece of fiction, which collects our beloved heroes and sets them off on another adventure. From the onset, we the readers are immediately presented with the dilemma - the floating island, and the villian - the mysterious woman, figured to be the fourth guru due to the aptly named title. Though what makes the tale so enthralling is not its destination but the journey. Your subtle twists and personal takes on the original story catches me off guard and gets me thinking, which I like. I clearly understood the events in each chapter, so do not worry if the information seems convoluted or unclear as you mentioned in your notes; it does not. Grammar, spelling, diction, and the like are well above par. I would watch for consistancy of style, which I believe someone else also mentioned. Some descriptions are delightfully vivid and lucid, and others are more pragmatic in nature, detailing only information essential to the plot. On a quick side note, you spelled "Crono" as such until chapter 10, when you switched to "Chrono". _ The characterization is very true to form for the CT cast, with descriptions that accurately personify their natures. Developing character in Chrono Trigger fanfiction is always a challenge, and I enjoy seeing how each author tackles that task. Magus and Frog are always the easiest to portray because in the game we are presented with both their traits and inner conflicts. With Marle and Lucca we only get their traits, and with Crono we get next to nothing, not even dialogue! I like all of them so far, though I would watch jumping back and forth too much between points of view. I have come to expect a shift in POV when I encounter a new scene, though when the chapter bounces around a lot, like in Chapter 4 from Lucca to Marle to Marle again to Crono then back to Lucca, I have to make an effort to change my line of thinking and retrace their current feelings, inhibitions, desires, etc. I best understood where you went with these characters when Magus analyzed each one very specifically. As you said in Chapter 6: "Lucca, once the awkward scientist, was now a blossoming young woman. Marleās charisma had dimmed, settling into a more acceptable glow in place of her once-blinding passion." I'd like to see these observations for myself in the characters' actions, words, and thoughts. Crono you still left a mystery even in Magus' eyes, and him being my favorite ex-mute, I'd very much like to see where you are going to take him. I'm also going to take a risk and say you are a fan of anime, or are seeking to present the original anime-style of the game through writing. Some of the images or scenes described seem like something seen in your typical anime, such as in Chapter 4 with: "Crono looked down slightly, his eyes shaded by his hair while he contemplated her question." Within the genre, the eyes are the most prominant feature on the face, often equated as windows to the soul. When covered or just plainly not visible, it presents an aura of mystery, foreboding, or something sinister. Whether intentional or not, the sentence transformed the simple conversation into a revelation for either Crono's concern for Glenn and Magus or how the gravity of the situation was affecting him. As of now, it is a wonderful read and something I hope you will expand upon in the near future. I anticipate a show-down between the cast and Lorraine, though what I desire more is to discover the answers to the little mysteries along the way. I hope I was some help to you, and good luck with your next update. |
cleansocks chapter 10 . 9/12/2004 You're good at creating such suspense that we sit on the edge of our seats by the end of the chapter. I feel like magus is about to explode, especially with those comments about Schala 8D. You're portraying his anger, if that's what you're intending him to feel, in a very subdued way... I'm hoping he's going to show his rage soon . Still reading of course. Keep up the work! It's going well. |
Preventer Squall chapter 9 . 8/10/2004 Oh. The Guru of Magic, eh? I can't wait to find out what she pulls out of her hat in the next chapter. It'll be interesting to see, I know that much. And what about the old woman and her sapling? Is she another if the disciples, trained by the Guru of Life? No matter what answers you have, I can't wait to see what happens in your next chapter. |
The Ansem Man chapter 9 . 7/27/2004 *Nods* Good. The mystery and madness that surrounds this piece makes sense enough for me. I can only hlope you'll answer questions as they come. |
AnimeRachiru chapter 8 . 7/3/2004 I just realized that a bunch of people actually call Magus the fourth guru, The Guru of Magic. I dunno why they call him that, but it does kind of make sence. |
Bionicman chapter 1 . 7/1/2004 Darn, something happened to my first review, which is now lost to cyberspace. Hope this one works. *Fantastic attention to detail: each sentence and paragraph are carefully chosen. It's not often I see a fanfic with this amount of effort put into it. *Nice job with the characterization. You subtly develop the characters through reactions and quirks instead of bludgeoning readers over the head with major new personality traits. However, some characters (Crono and Marle in particular) could be given more attention). *The plot is reasonably intersting so far, but faster movement would help. You've done a good job of avoiding painful cliches, but there are a lot more of those you could easily fall into. Be careful. |
Bionicman chapter 8 . 7/1/2004 *Excellent attention to detail with your phrasing. The best part of the newer chapters is how each sentence contributes to the story (few wasted paragraphs, if any). *I like the subtle nature character development, which doesn't go out of it's way to add new traits to the cast. However, I'm worried that some of them (Crono and Marle in particular) are getting the short end of the stick, which is fine if they're just minor players, but could be a problem if they're at the center of the plot. *The intelligent dialogue is very well written. The thought that went into it is evident, and deserves to be praised. *Be careful with the overall plot, which seems like it could easily fall into cliches (especially Lorraine - I can't remember the characters she reminds me of, but I know I've seen this personality archetype several times before). Overall, an impressive amount of effort clearly has been put into this fanfic. I can't name too many fics where each line of dialogue got as much attention as this one. This is shaping up to be a first-rate story. I sincerely hope the upcoming chapters maintains this level of quality. |
AnimeRachiru chapter 8 . 6/28/2004 Hey, pretty nice. I like it alot |
