Hush Puppie chapter 1 . 6/13/2004 I've read this over and over again, so many times I can't even remember how many anymore. I never knew quite how to review, though, even though I wanted to. I didn't have any good suggestions on how to improve what seems to me to be an already excellent fic, and I didn't want to just fangirl you and act like an idiot. Well, you deserve a review, so I'll try not to seem like *too* much of an idiot as I quasi-fangirl you. This is brilliant. Which is a word I admit to throwing around a lot, but this time I mean it. This actually has the creeativity to be truly brilliant, as opposed to just good. No matter how many times I read it, I still cry. It seems sadder and angstier, to me, than a lot of the over-done deathfics out there. I don't know why the idea of Kaiba and Jou at a temple telling each other their sins should make me so upset, but it does. I'm thinking it's probably in the presentation - you're a talented writer and I love your use of repitition. And I know what Jounouchi feels like when he can't breathe... because right now, I can't. Every time I read this, I can't. I hope I didn't creep you out too bad. I guess I'll be going now. Many apologies. |
Battle Ferrets chapter 1 . 5/23/2004 I knew I would love your other stories. Another well written fic courtesy of Cairnsy and I applaud you in your uniqueness. As much as I would love to make this a fifty page review (*snorts* not... I'm not that good with words for one, and you'd lose interest around page three) I am semi-babysitting, so I'll just tell you that you did a wonderful job on the Japan New Years, and that the sins were very fitting. Mind, I had to go to so that I could figure out what the 105th sin actually meant, but that just shows you how devoted I was. I am still in your awe at your word usage and the way you made two... where exactly do Seto and Joey stand? They aren't really adversaries or rivals or even aquaintances... not really. But you made them fit together very nicely, keeping them in character the entire time. Keep up the outstanding work. -Jasper Sable |
Random Minion chapter 1 . 4/2/2004 Absolutely beautiful. I’m speechless. The way you built up the tension, using events from the series, and traditional Japanese rituals, Katsuya’s commentary on the temple, mediating his angst and the incorporation of the sins it all fits so beautifully. I’m absolutely green with jealousy. How ever do you manage to write with such fluidity? The move from animosity to something more between the two was so subtle. I'm never able to manage it. Just beautiful. Keep writing for you have the skills. |
lenanR chapter 1 . 2/3/2004 nice and original fic |
innominate chapter 1 . 1/18/2004 Maybe it's just me, but I don't get the problem someone mentioned with your introduction. Is it that you admitted you did research? Or that you're not perfect? The first is good and the second is normal. Oh well. To each his own. ~ I see you used repetition again in a story. But I still think it works for you. *g* And I really liked the premise of this. I mean, Kaiba and Jounouchi sharing their sins with the other? This is why I love fanfiction. Such a neat concept. ~ I also liked that this took place after the Battle City arc. I think it was you who made me first start thinking about the change in Kaiba's characterization in that season. I mean he has a problem with the death duel in episode 78, but not with Malik's dueling tactics on the Battle Ship? Well, anyway, glad you addressed that issue. ~ Talk to you later and have a good day! |
YumeTakato chapter 1 . 1/15/2004 this story was so good! ::lol:: Is this going to continue...? -shrugs- oh well! it'd have more weird fluffy-ness! ::lol:: Mau! :3 |
radiany chapter 1 . 1/15/2004 Must I say? _ Cairnsy-san, you're one of the best psychological-based Yuugiou writers around *heart*. I don't know much on Japanese cultures and I haven't seen the end of the Battle City Arc, but I have to conclude that "The 105th Sin" is pretty impressive. Of course, I don't feel that it's your best work and it somehow seemed like you were testing a new writing style *blink* - or perhaps I've just been away from fanfiction too long. *sigh* Anyway, though the story is lush full of "the good stuff," it seems too dramatic and contains slight out-of-character-ness on Jounouchi's part. But who am I to say? I haven't seen it yet anyhow -_-; Perhaps it's my exhaustion that muddled up the story for me...I was a tad confused on what you were talking about here and there and reread it somewhere around a dozen times before going "oh...ah, okay?"; either way, it's not really you're fault, but you may want to beta a bit (though it's probably just on my part *sigh*) Kaiba's entrance was surprising (I can hardly see him stalking Jounouchi-kun); it made me blink for a second, but I would say that with the label [Jounouchi x Kaiba] plastered on your fic, it was foreseen anyhow XD So then, why did Kaiba come to this specific temple? After all, there are other temples around, yes? Or perhaps this certain one is the only one close enough yet far enough from the city? Meh...And since Jounouchi-kun comes there every year...Sheesh. *prods Kaiba-kun* I don't understand you at all... Anyway, I'd enjoy an explanation of your title "The 105th Sin," which I believe was 'worthlessness'? M...Kaiba's apology ne? Sounds more like an 'on-your-knees' movement...Maybe I'm just reading it wrong. Either way, it'll be nice ; As for sin 106...*snort* earrings? XD *gives Kaiba an amused look* Style of Writing: 8 Spelling & Grammar: 9 Originality/Creativity: 9 Enjoyment Factor: 6 Overall Rating: 8.5 -Raichan (tiredexhaustedfalling apart) |
