I know that many people ship these characters, but I really like their friend dynamic. Guys can still care about eachother as friends.

May I say something? I really like the story arc and how you took your time with pain introduction and recovery (Very accurate. I'm rather impressed.), but! One thing I remember from the book; Elves can sleep while walking and appearing awake (kind of subconsciously sleep-walking while more consciously being awake, if that makes sense. And, funnily enough, Legolas was the example of that in the Two Towers. ;p ), they don't necessarily need to sleep fully, unless, as you were quite right to mention, physically and/or mentally exhausted.
