I realize this review might come out of the blue. I don't even know whether you'll receive this or not, but I wanted to give this story my review because I think that even though a project has been abandoned for years it still deserves recognition, and this one certainly does. I find myself reaching for this story once in a while, and I can't count how many times I have read it, but it always strikes me in its simplistic beauty.
My love for these characters knows no bounds, and when I see someone make them justice I simply can't help but reach again for those stories, those stories that actually have something to say. I love your approach here. Not only with the characters but how you introduce the topic, and how you crafted this alternate universe. It does not bother me that you made Celebrían die, because it could easily have happened, and even though it's heartbreaking seeing how this affects Elrond and how he must look at Celebrían, knowing that she does not remember him and what they once had.
You write his reactions beautifully, and I love how you created their past and wove that storyline into this story. It works wonderfully.
Galadriel is also amazing here. I think that many authors are very reluctant to write her. Almost as if they are afraid of her, perhaps because they don't understand her. But you made her humane, a mother. She is afraid for her child, and her instinct to protect her from everything, even Elrond, makes sense. You're not afraid to show the vulnerable side of her as well as the strong leader we know so well. But people are diverse and you certainly showed that she is not merely a leader, and a very capable individual, but also a being with emotions and feelings. She is also hurt and afraid, and that is very prudent when writing a character that many find hard relating to. Emotions are not always a weakness and you showed that beautifully here.
Your writing is exceptionally beautiful, and I hope that you are still writing, even though it's just for yourself, because you truly have a talent for it.
Thank you for sharing this story. It might not be complete, but the way it ended here is enough for me. It kind of makes sense as an ending. It's hopeful but not too revealing. Perfect.

I have never read a "whatif" like this one before. I love how you wrote a POV for Galadriel. The stories ive read so far make her seem so disconnected but you made her seem more real to me. Yes, she is a ruler and wise, but she was a mother and a wife and I liked how you actually showed that kind of side to her and showed a vulnerability. Im soo sad to see this unfinished!

A little confusing in parts, could do with a little better organisation, but an excellent story nonetheless! I love how the harp features throughout, and the extended metaphor of the harpstring and melody.

I've told you how much I love this chapter, right? (I realise I do this every chapter, but never mind that.)

Maybe it's because it touches upon memories, both good and bad, that I've gone over as well, have thought about a great deal before setting some of it down as well. It's sort of a feast of recognition, and at the same time you bring new things into it all, and as a result it becomes even more extensive. (I can't help but love fanfiction for giving all of us the opportunity to weave something like that together.)

I must really applaud you for giving such different faces to Galadriel (maybe that's what frightens me about her; she's impossible to put into any kind of box characterisation-wise). But what I love most is about your characters, and it becomes clearer than ever in this chapter; they're not stationary characters, but moving, developing ones. You've delicately made the transition from the early chapters up to this point, and at exactly the right pacing suited for the setting and situation. All taken together, you've breathed an aliveness into the story that always catches me unawares and never ceases to inspire me.

I'm still enjoying so much your take on all these characters and it is really just a wonderful scenario. Galadriel's role in it all is particularly interesting to read, and the flashback with Arwen in the previous chapter definitely got me. The way everything ties together is just such a lovely reminder of how all these characters are connected - I think when I focus on pairings I sometimes forget about the whole family tree.

You do wonderfully with making Br and Elrond both appear vulnerable at times but never weak. Am really looking forward to seeing them fully come together. :)
