I think Shawn CAN be reflective, yes: he would just never show it to anyone else. Part of his skillset is deception, and that includes hiding from himself for as long as possible. I wish the writers had given him a chance to grow-and I think it's quite telling that some of the best episode for OTHER characters were written by James Roday. (I also wish they'd had some female writers, but that's for another rant.)
