Great little side-story thing, and I love the classic "we found an old thing in some ruins" fake-out as they seal the lab and it gets nuked from orbit instead of going in. It's rare that we see people act intelligently in these situations in books, films, or games, and pretty refreshing.

It could be cool to see the entire incident from the perspective of the doctor or the security detail. A pseudo-horror story where the first infected organism subtly starts infecting more until the whole base is at risk, and you've got a desperate gamble to seal the facility (welding, which takes a long time as far as I know) and cut off any other exit routes. Plus they'll have to deal with those who'd rather run and save themselves, and potentially spread the virus.

But anyway, great story as usual.
